I don't think I have shopped at enough of the stores to have a strong opinion. However, I am curious about the quality of Cabela's branded clothing and boots?

I HAVE SOME OF THEIR CLOTHING AND BOOTS FROM SEVERAL YEARS BACK. THE TROUBLE COMES IF YOU NEED TO REPLACE SOMETHING YOU LIKE REALLY WELL AND GO TO BUY IT THEN YOU FIND IT'S NO LONGER OFFERED ANYMORE. DON'T BOTHER ASKING ANYONE BECAUSE THEY LOOK AT YOU AND GIVE YOU THE WALMART SHRUG.
THE ITEMS I HAVE ARE REALLY GOOD GEAR THOUGH.

I bought some insulated pants last year that are the best i've tried. I also love their base layer stuff it works great. No luck with Cabela's branded boots only problems. The Ft. Worth store seems to me hit or miss on hunting clothing. Boy do they have the casual wear which I rarely see anyone shopping in. Never been to the Allen store anyone know if they are better?

The Allen store is smaller, pretty well stocked but not as many of some items

WHEN CABELAS OR BPS GIVES ME A SURVEY, UNDER THE "HOW CAN WE IMPROVE OUR SERVICE?" QUESTION I ALWAYS PUT "GET RID OF GOLF EQUIPMENT AND CASUAL CLOTHING". WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED BRINGING IN ACADEMY STORES HERE, I TOLD THEM THE SAME THING. DONT BRING IN A LOT OF BASKETBALL AND GOLF SH**, YOU NEED TO LEAVE IT PRIMARILY HUNTING FISHING AND CAMPING UNLESS YOU WANT TO END UP LIKE OSHMANS.

I THINK ACADEMY HAS OSHMANS AND DICKS PRETTY MUCH BEAT ON PRICE AND STOCK. PLUS, THERES NO QUESTIONS ASKED RETURNS>> WHEN CABELAS OR BPS GIVES ME A SURVEY, UNDER THE "HOW CAN WE IMPROVE OUR SERVICE?" bad thing about academy (around here anyway) is you have to wade through two miles of soccer and golf and work-out clothing crap to get to anything.
i don't have anything against golf or tennis or seeing young honeys in workout clothing, but most golfers and the like i've personally known go to specialty stores and not chain stores. the stores around here also don't always have the same merchandise. the closest store to me has fly fishing reels and fly combos, but no flies or fly line.
????????????????
most of the folks buying work out shoes and stuff go to footlocker or mall stores

Cabelas branded stuff is right up there in quality as the big mfg's.
One thing to note, you will never see the full line of a MFG's product at a big box retailer like cabelas. Their buyers have a price point and their own lines that they have to consider when bringing in other lines.
Now a days its almost easier to order online from the mfg and return ship if you don't like it or sizing is wrong.

I like the Allen store better. Seems to me they have same (or close to same) amount of hunting gear and wear as other two, but less casual wear. I like the Cabelas brand stuff. Also, the Allen store seems to have a lot more helpful staff!

I like the bass pro shop too, but nothing seems cheap, and i prefer to get to shop online for the higher end things like sitka gear...

I'm sort of close to Bass Pro in Grapevine. The two Cabela's (Allen & Ft. Worth) are about equally far.
I like the Clothing choice in Allen, but have found stuff in Ft. Worth not in the Allen stock.
Their brand clothing is top notch. I bought and returned 6 parkas from various online sources last year until I settled on one from Cabela's. They hunt in what they make.
I think PETA has a lot of input on Browning outer wear. As noisy as they are, you sure ain't gonna' shoot anything wearing them.
Bass Pro has had better service lately. More knowledgeable (and available) sales people. And they match prices.
Cabela's disappointed me last year when shopping for turkey calls. The sales person I talked to was of the mindset "Heck, I don't use no calls. I just strip down nekkid, rub mud on my body, climb a tree & wait so I can drop down and knife them." That was in the Allen store. Maybe the zoo picked him up by now.

If you're strictly looking for hunting clothes, try the Walls outlet warehouse on Risinger in south Ft Worth. It's on 35W, south of 20, 820. go west on Risinger about a mile. they are a true outlet, unlike Hamilton, Llano or Hillsboro. they are in phone book or google #

As mentioned, the footwear hasn't worked out so well for me either. Microtex pants and shirt get an A+ though! The Gore Tex raingear is pretty good too so far. I don't expect the staff to be too knowledgeable-heck I usually know more about the item in question than they do! Then again I have a library in my bathroom! LOL.

It seems like the best prices are at Academy but obviously less hunting/shooting stuff at that store. Bass Pro is the most expensive imo but it's the closest so I go there more often than the other stores. I like Cabelas though, decent prices and a wide selection.

I have had very good purchases from Cabelas. Thankfully after moving to Texas I see that there is a store only 10 miles from me. Before it was a 70 min drive to the closest one! I always look online at their items before actually going to the store though. Because some of the staff have NO idea about hunting.
Love Cabelas though!

I have friends from Sweden and Denmark...when they come in town they have two places they want to go...walmart for electronics and Cabelas for hunting and ski gear. So you just need to book a hunt in Texas, enjoy some Texas hospitality and hand out for a while
