Whats the critter by the protein/mineral block? Kinda looked like a small porcupine but I can't tell what it is.

Top buck is mature and nice looking buck. The last buck has had antler damage in velvet and will grow out of it next year.

If he has looked like that for several years then he pulled or broke an antler out while fighting. Still not genetic just an injury is my guess. If he has looked like that for several years then he is old enough to take if you do not have AR's.

Yes, the legs in the second photo show appear shorter relative to the body, as opposed to a younger buck with legs that appear much longer. IMO, he's ready for the ice chest.

Top buck looks like he has an injury/disease on the left hind leg, near the hoof. Looks like he may be favoring that leg.

I am thinking the second buck has a damaged pedicle and without that little nub getting a second point he would be legal to take in an AR county that alows a spike to be harvested.

I still see him being legal...if its the widest point then why couldnt you measure from the end of that beam to the inside spread of the other...dosnt say were just widest inside spread....

Same pasture 3 years ago: I think its a genetic thing? If that is the same deer as in pic 2 did the abnormality switch sides? Looks to be on the deers left side in the 2nd pic and right in the last pic? Unless the dates are wronf the above pic is 2 years old not 3.

Thinkin there is something in common causing this if its in the same pasture but its gona be something about the terrain rather than genetics

Surely there is some outside factor causing the malformed antler to change sides, versus a genetic trait, right?

Most common causes of malformed antlers I have seen are early velvet antler injuries, antlers broken off in or out of the skull when fighting causing next years antler to be malformed, or a broken antler that is not cast/shed at the time the new antler starts to grow.

Could possibly be an inbreeding problem.

not related to the antler injury, but, not being a hunter, I will say I am impressed with the quality of some of these feed cameras.
