I know a guy that has a win 30-30 model 94 that will sell it for $175. I haven't seen the gun but I was told it was in pretty decent condition, what do the guns start at considering they are a little rough and what type of problems usually occur with these rifles?

We've had a good # of M94's in this household thru the years, and never had an issue with any. The design and function is simple. Straightforward and reliable.
Pre 64 models tend to command a premium. Irregardless, if the one you mentioned is in decent shape, $175.00 is an excellent buy.

Unless the gun has a cracked stock and/or rusted out bore and action then its almost certinly worth $175. Even the base line birch stock 94 in decent condition is worth much more than that.

That is a great deal if the gun is a shooter.

If it shoots buy that sucker. I have one and LOOOOOOVE it. And what year is it made? I can destroy anything with mine, it's just a good rifle overall.

Cheep '94 tend to be the Post-64 receivers that have cast steel receivers. Along with all the other cost saving cuts, these tend to have a lot of reciever finish issues...that keep up until the Angle Eject receivers when they went back to forged.
They'll shoot about the same so the price is good if mechanically sound and very good if it looks good.

Even if it's in decent shape that is an excellent deal.

Yeah I am going to check with the guy and see if he still has it tomorrow. I was on the phone with my dad and the guy when my dad was talking to him. He didn't know model or even if it was marlin or win. They had to get the gun out again to look at it. It was the guys grandfather-in-law. So good chance could be pre-64. If he has it i'm buying tomorrow. Already have marlin 336 that I love.

you should get it for $175... Heck you can replace the stock and still be in good shape for re-sale. Those are not in high demand but heck at that price you would be able to turn it quick if you decide to.

Sure it is 30/30? I have one in .32 special, my first gun. I picked up one not long ago from Cabelas with an XS scout mount. Went to shoot it yesterday, rounds stopped about 1/2 inch from locking. I though it was messed up then figured it out and it is a 7-30 Waters. Caliber marking can't be seen as is under the mount and I bought it as a 30/30.

Pre 64's will also have solid pins as opposed to hollow ones..and yrs ago their base value in any kind of shape started at around $450..DD

He's not even sure what it is at this point...
