The family that I bought it from said that the property has never been hunted. I have several houses around me so I hope that will keep poachers from killing them. I'm not good at aging a deer but all these deer look young. I think I'll let these walk this year and hope they make it to next year. Every couple weeks I have had a new buck come to the feeder so I'm going to be patient.

I live in Poetry in Hunt county.I've seen some really nice deer since I've lived there.Keep the game wardens phone # handy because the road hunters and poachers are a problem.

Wow that first one has a really nice rack growing. He does appear to be a little young, those long brows and tall tines would make it tough to watch him walk away. Good deal for you though having bought a place and find that you have some good genes running through. I would do as another suggested and start a protein station, won't help growth for this year but get them used to eating it to help the growth for next year and so on. Good luck and good find.

Dear Donkey,

You are very lucky. Don't take too many deer or hunt too heavily and you will have yourself a nice little gold mine.

But I would (politely) strongly advise you to keep your mouth shut about it to your neighbors and folks who know where you are.

You let your neighbors know, and pretty all their grandkids, cousins, etc. will be camping out on your property line and in no time at all there will be no deer.

I garantee you those deer are there ONLY because no one knows about them.

Really ... keep it very quiet - don't even tell your neighbors you are hunter - or your little goldmine will disappear.

I will definantly keep it quiet with the neighbors. Should I be concerned with the amount of bucks and just a few doe pics? I've seen lots of doe tracts but not much activity around the feeder.

Right now the bucks are running together in groups. In another month or so they will begin to break up. I don't think you can go by what you see now being there during season. Everything changes about mid-october.

You might not see any of these bucks come season. You might see a buck you have never seen before during the rut.

On small properties with small pods of cover - during the off season it is not uncommon for a group of deer take up residence in as little as 2-3 acres brushy areas. They'll live there all year - if unmolested. Come season, come rut - they might all disappear never to be seen again.

After season, you might have a completely different group of deer that camps in that 10-acre wood. Or it might be the same ones.

One thing for certain - with that small of an area, as soon as people start moving around in there, especially if you spook them off their bedding areas - it will be history for some time. These guys probably found this little patch of woods, next to the houses, where nobody bothered them and no activity during season last year.

If you want to have a chance at keeping them there - refrain from disturbing as much as possible. Keep others out of the area, feed them, water them and let them be. If the does like it, chances are you will have those or other bucks pay the ladies a visit during the rut.

Harvest a deer you like and that makes sense - then stay out of the woods until next year.

This^^^. Hate to be a downer, but odds are they won't be around come season. You never know though. Obviously they are not bedding on your place. How close is the nearest thick area where they could possibly be bedding? Maybe you can luck out and catch one of them moving before they start wondering.

It is thick for about 10 miles. My place is close to the end where it starts to open up and house developments begin. There is a big parcel of land in front of me too that is about 1 mile away from a huge bottom.

Nice deer! My Buddys dad leases a ton of land right outside of greenville on the Sabine river bottom. Went with him one night to do some yote control and could not beleive the numbers of deer is saw. Would love to lease the place but owner will only let his son and brother hunt 800 acres and kill maybe 2 deer a year. We go duck hunt it a couple times a year and see some definite brutes if you would have told me all this was in greenville without me seeing it I probably wouldn't have beleived it.

Aim small, miss small.

Man, you sure that's not a moose?

Nice healthy animals there, friend.
Feed them and take care of them and you will enjoy them for years.

I grew up in the Rockwall/Heath side, there are deer just on the outskirts of heath all the way to Terrell. I saw a real nice 10 pt. buck in Mclendon Chisholm one day driving down 205, the buck was walking in one of dried up creeks the road crosses.

Believe it or not Rockwall cty has some deer as well. Caddo creek is probably close to you. That area was stocked back in the late 70s, they've been there for over 30 years or so. They have definitely expanded their range. My parents have a home on rainbow lake in Rockwall, Buffalo creek is close by,there are a few deer in the area. Most are below the dam at RH, into Kaufman cty.

X 2. You can have your own private "lease" on your own property. Be discreet when you harvest a deer. Some neighbors don't like hunters. If you do talk to non-hunting neighbors about the deer...complain about them eating plants and pooping up your yard. They'll start thinking the same thing. Telling your hunting friends about this is like posting your favorite crappie brush piles on a lake in TFF. Next thing you know, there's a dozen boats fishing your "spot". Good luck...and nice game cam pics. cheers

That 23 acres has to fill like you won the lottery. That is if you were a hunter.
