I would like to take my son-in-law to the ranch hog hunting. He doesn't get to go very often so I would like to have the best opportunity for him to see a hog.
I already have 5 feeders set up for deer hunting and 4 of them have hog panels around them. The 1 feeder is left open for hog hunting without hog panels.
Hogs do come to it pretty regular, usually at night. I was going to put out extra corn and hog attractant when we get there but I know that it won't do much good to do that the day that we get there if we want to hunt that night.
How far in advance, a day or so or when would you think that I could put out a lot of corn or hog attractant at this feeder to increase the odds of seeing hogs the night that we are going to hunt. I would be willing to go up there a day or two before hand and do this if it will give him a better chance to see hogs.
Also, what other attractants could I use that would work best. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hog attractants the Pros use are paid for by sponsors and put out in locations where feeders have been in operation for quite some time. They are proclaimed to work by the professional on the TV show, but how could there be any other result. Whenever a pig did arrive, however many days or hours later, it was the attractant that did the job and not the corn placed out for months that keep the piggies coming back.
The longer in advance, the better. Nothing works immediately and works all the time or we would all have perfect hog hunts each time. Lots of people have pet recipes they claim work well, but I honestly don't know of anybody that has shown up blind to a spot such as newly purchased land that can show where the attractant worked where corn would not have worked. Either you have hogs that will come or you do not. I have done soured corn, buried corn (still untouched after months as not placed where feed was expected), beer corn, grape jello corn, and a couple commerical products. At last the grape jello corn smells good when you spill it on your boots. Everything else stinks to high heaven and not in a good way.

I agree with DNS. The longer the better. At one time, I had a series of feeders about 1/4 mile between each. All had a game camera and when I pulled the memory cards, you could put together a timeline of the same sounder of hogs going from feeder to feeder in the same order nearly every night. A friend and I happened to catch them on the begining of their nightly foray and were able to kill the four biggest pigs and put a stop to their all you can eat buffet.

Regular corn works as good as anything. I haven't wasted money on attractants in some time. If there are pigs there, they will come in pretty short order. If you start about a month in adavance and make it a regular dinner stop they will be there regular until you shoot into them. They learn fast.

I agree that corn works the best. And the "pro" on the t v shows they generally put it where a feeder was or is and just turn the camera. I guided deer and pig hunts for 12 yrs. the tv shows are way hyped up to sell you something. Most that stuff wouldn't call in a starving hog.

If there are hogs in the area they are usually patterned and wont veer from their normal routine. If you know their travel pattern you can corn a road up hours in advance and they will stop and feed.
