Haven't read that one. Great buck and I'm glad they caught him. Yeah I've done some dumb stuff but I never even thought of cutting through a fence to steal/shoot someone's HF buck. Of course he was dumb enough to post it all over Facespace.

Actually the charge he was convicted of was theft, not poaching. Which was appropriate given that the animal was livestock and not wild.
What a dimbulb....
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

What a dimbulb.... I swear everytime you comment on a HF buck, you HAVe to say livestock. Well, they basically are livestock. They're fenced in, ear-tagged or ID'd, fed, treated, culled, and bred for human consumption like cattle. They're AI'd like cattle. They're even bought and sold based on pedigrees like cattle. New genetics have to be introduced into the herd periodically, just like cattle. Heck, I've worked heifers that were wilder than some high-fenced deer I've seen.

I'm not trying to start ANOTHER HF debate, y'all are right all HF deer are like bottle raised goats, shake a coffee can full of corn and they'll climb up in your lap.
As for the poacher, I'm glad they got that sorry s.o.b!

Don't know what HF ranches your talking about but i can show you several thats no where like your talking about. No ai'ing no ear tags or genetics. Whats out there is out there they do there own deer thing yes we've got a few feeders around but there still wilded as can be. So don't lump all HF ranches into one pile. 7000+ ac and 10 hunters is all we've got i ride around the ranch everyday and may see 2 bucks a week.

They're fenced in, right? And if they're fenced in, and you're managing your herd correctly, you still have to bring in new genetics. And where do those new genetics come from?

I am glad they got him too. But if it isn't livestock then cut a hole in the fence and let him roam around a bit. I have nothing against HF, but it is what it is. A pen, no matter the size or terrain.
