If I want to be on at 300 yards and only have a 50 yard range to shoot at where should I be hitting? I will be using a 308 with 150 grain SST.. thanks in advance

Depends on gun and scope. Id say about an inch or so above. There are 100yrd ranges everywhere id try and find one to be more on mark.

Lot of other variables and don't have a chart for your specific ammo but here is some generic info from Remmington Ballistac Chart

PremierŪ Core-LoktŪ Ultra 150 grain 50 yards 0.2, 100 yards zero, 150 yards -1.2, 200 yards -3.9, 250 yards -8.2, 300 yards -14.4

So by this you would need to sight in at about 3.47 inches high at 50 yards.
Real wild guess.
You really need some range time at least at 100 yards to check things out.

I'd say anywhere from 2.5 - 3.5 inches high, but like the other said, I'd try to do it at a minimum of 100yd range.

The winchester ballistic calculator says zero at 300yds is 2.1" high at 50yds and 4.5" high at 100yds for a 150 gr. BST.

That's not how it works. Sight in 14" high at 50 would put your zero at about 1,000 yards.

If you plan to shoot at game at 300 yards then you need to check for zero at 300 yards. Don't just assume that it'll be on a 300 yard zero just because the ballistics charts say you should be. Depending on the rifle and set up, it may be substantially off.

if you're not going to sight
in your specific rifle and ammo
for the range you intend to shoot
at, i hope you're not intending to
shoot at a game animal.
charts and calculator programs can
get you close, but just close, and
that's not good enough and highly
unethical. we have an ethical and
moral responsibility to harvest
game as clean and quick-killing
as possible.

carry a camera instead

Per Nikon SpotOn Ballisct Calculator, you are going to be 2.09" high at 50 yards with a 300 yard zero using Hornsdy 150gr SST.

Since you said SST I am thinking you are using Hornady Factory ammo, so I would use the Hornady Calculator. Of course that assumes the velocity is correct and the BC is correct and scope is 1.5 inches above the bore, but it should get you close. THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW FOR SURE IS TO SHOOT IT at distance THOUGH.

http://www.hornady.com/ballistics-resource/ballistics-calculator

Their website shows
Velocity 2820 fps
BC of .415
Bullet weight 150
Plug those in and change the
Interval to 50 and the sight inrange to 300
hit calculate and then you can print the results.

By the way it shows 2.1 inch high at 50 for a 300 yard zero and will be over 5 inches high along the way
