Went to visit the grandparents this weekend and left with a box full of my great grandmother's cast iron! From best I could find on the web it looks like the newest one was made between 1920-1942 and the oldest 1902-1903. Can't wait to get these re-seasoned and use em. The dutch oven has seen so much use the makers proofs on the bottom are worn out

Awesome find. Sounds like you should get years of use out of them and hopefully pass them down. Post some pics.

Cant say I have any antique cast, but I really prefer to cookk on it as oposed to anything else. It would be really cool to have some of my relatives stuff, but I think it got handed out to others before my time.

The dutchoven and washpot I have are from the early 1900s, and late 1800s. They are still cooking good food

Season them with LARD. Accept no substitute. I glass blast my newly found treasures and season them with lard. Black and slick, best cookware ever, our primary cook stuff is all old Griswold cast iron.
Cast I have a short attention spa

what is glass blast? I plan of using lard, trying to get some nice grass fed beef fat right now
2 of them are Griswold, one of a Wagner Ware, and the 4th I can't see because it looks like her primary pan and its worn out

Never wash a cast iron pot or skillet just wipe it clean and apply an even coating of grease. They are awsome in making corn bread. I have no idea who made mine they have been handed down for years. I found and old rusty one a few months back and threw it in a brush pile while it was burning and wal ah ready to be seasoned with yes lard or beef fat. I treat my disk cooker th same way
It could be uh law I dont no. Yall have uh good un

Very cool. I have a couple of old pieces. They season up better than the new stuff. Congrats.

Had some tucked in the cabinet. I hadn't used them in awhile and knew they needed to be seasoned so it wasn't a worry. Came home one day and got that feeling like I wanted to show my pans some love. Looking for the big pan, looking for it, going crazy because I knew where I had put it. Wife walks in the kitchen and I say to her, where is the big cast pan? Oh that old thing! All that stuff had started to rust so I threw them away! That was over 20 years ago and I still think it happened today-tomorrow-and the next day.... Do I really need to type more and let all of you know how I really feel about it?
