I just loaded up some 44, 44.5 and 45 gr Varget with 168 gr ttsx bullets.
I seated 1 to 2.840 with the 44 gr and it looks like it compressed and mashed down on the powder. So I quit and started reading.
I cannot hear the powder moving when I shake the case.
Please shed some light to me on this please? Thanks.

I think the ttsx are made long and are to be seated .030-.050" from the lands.
I was hoping I can load these to SAAMI specs of 2.810.

Never loaded that bullet. But when I was loading 175 SMKs and 178 A-maxes I put 44.2 gr. of Varget in the case and never had a compessed load .0020" jammed though.
What's the twist rate of that barrel? Mine was a 1:10" and those A-maxes performed beautifully from 100 yd zero to 1000. They also made every animal I hit with em Dead Right There. Just FYI

The twist is 1 in 11.25". 45 gr is max load. I am gonna pull that bullet and load one at 42 gr or so and see if it packs on top of the powder too.

2.840" seems long but every chamber is different. I don't get why you're getting compression here and I wasn't with .308.
Win brass or military? I only ask because military is significantly thicker and will top off your powder closer to the bullet.

I'm at a loss then. Can't understand why you're. Getting compression on a load that I never got compression.

I was also reading that the tsx and ttsx work with high velocity. These aint gonna cut it I dont think.
Gonna order some 165 gr Nosler Accuonds. I love them out of my 270 in 140 gr.
The ttsx are way too long for me.

What brand of Brass are you using? That does sound a little strange. Might check water capacity of the case and see how that compares to another lot or brand of brass. Do not have my notes on what it should be with me tonight.

I load 44.5 grains of Varget on same wgt projectile..I pulled some the other day and had to dig the powder out..w/AMAX and Sierra, and TSX..I haven't tried the 168 grain TSX in my Rem 700, but it didn't shoot as well as the others in my TRG w/has a 1/11 twist and will shoot 168 gr Sierras, 168 grain Amax, 175 grain Sierras in one hole and the groups will all be within a 1/2 inch of the others..The TSX were grouping to the left side about 3 inches and about a fat 1 in group..I am going to work on 150 grain TTSX next and see if it will tighten up..but you will get a compressed load at around 45 grains..DD

I used 168 ttsx with 43.5 gr of varget in my sps tactical with a 1 to 12 twist with good accuracy loaded at 2.8. Killed hogs but found one bullet in a hog that expanded but not as much as it should of. Barnes recommends going one weight lower than what you would normally shoot. I use 150 ttsx with 45 gr of varget and it expands a lot better.

I also shoot a SPS Tatical with the barnes TTSX. I have shot both the 150 loaded with 45gr Var at 2.810 and the 168 loaded with 44gr at 2.810. Both loads shoot awesome and have no problems taking game.

I'd go with a 150 TSX in the .308. They're shorter, easier to seat in the 2.8ish Remington magazine boxes & the extra speed will help them expand.
If you want to run 165/168, something other than Barnes would probably be a better idea. My .308 really liked 165 Accubonds & 167 Lapua Scenars in that weight range, but I stuck with the 150 TSX. Very good penetration & accuracy.

I finally shot the 168gr TSX in my Rem 700, and not working too hard did about 15 rounds in a nickle sized group...could have been somewhat better if I'd really gotten down and worked at it.. I'm impressed..I'll probably use it in the rifle for season instead of the 130 grains I shot last yr., or the 150's I bought to load in the TRG for this yr..Should be a great long range round and good on pig heads..DD//Oh same load as above..same shells they interchange..DD

I'm at a loss then. Can't understand why you're. Getting compression on a load that I never got compression. The Barnes stuff is longer for weight since copper is lighter than lead so it's longer than a competitor's 165 to get the weight up.
