My Dad and I had been talking about the Moultrie I40 trail camera and he bought one last Friday. He's got a bunch of goats and he's had coyote problems in the past. He's snapped a few pictures of this guy. Now we've only got three nights worth of pictures, but the timing seems totally random, like 9:30, 11, 1am, 2:30am. But they do come through every night at one point or another. Does anyone have a theory about coyote patterns or are they completely unpredictable? Dad's got an itchy trigger finger, so I doubt we'll get another night's worth of pictures.
Shoot straight and always carry a 7mm Remington Magnum.

Through all my years of trapping and working with coyotes especially when I worked as a gov't trapper, it really difficult and almost impossible to pattern them. They'll change their ways day-by-day or in a seconds notice. They're unpredictable, cunning and you can't second guess them at all, but you can slip them up every once in a while.
When you see them, take them is the best advice I can give you or get with someone who has good coyote trapping experience. This time of year, they are more interested in mating than anything else...gland lures are the ticket more times than not. Once it starts warming up and continues the increase, it gets more difficult to bring them too far from their dens looking for food. But again, you can entice them to a baiting station where they're used to getting "free meals"...in your case, you want to do that quite a long ways from your goats!

coyote video We've got video! 9:08pm Dad said about 9:30 coming home from Walmart, he saw a coyote at the other end of his street, halfway to the Whataburger! I think he's hungry.
