I bought a Stevens .22 off of a fellow thf member. I am going to sand and refinish the stock to see how it turns out. I am going to be using the birchwood and casey after refinish kit. It looks ok and has some small ding in it. Anyone know of some good tips or videos to go by? I will take before, during and after pics if anyone wants to see them. Thanks guys.

DON'T SAND IT UNLESS IT'S GOT SPLINTERS HANGING OUT. GO GET SOME OF THAT FORMBY'S FURNITURE REFINISHING STUFF FROM WALMART OR SOMEWHERE AND SOME 4/0 STEEL WOOL AND TAKE IT DOWN WITH THAT.(THERE ARE OTHER PRODUCTS BESIDES FORMBY'S I'VE JUST HAD BETTER LUCK WITH IT)

B-CASEY MAKES A GOOD TOP COAT CALLED TRU-OIL, BUT I PREFER THE LINSEED OIL AND TURPENTINE ROUTE MYSELF. THE TRU-OIL WORKS BETTER IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY PATIENCE.

Whoa, he used his caps lock! That's serious crap right there. Honestly what I'd do is get real ral fine sand paper and sand it barely by hand. Then get the gloss of your choice (miniwax's polyurethane) and put a little of that on there then get the sandpaper again and lightly go over it. It'd make it look real good then.

I DON'T LIKE TO HEAT A STOCK UNLESS THE DING IS BAD. JUST A DAMP RAG ON THE BARE WOOD WILL USUALLY BRING OUT THE SMALL ONES. JUST TRIAL AND ERROR AND PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

I DIDN'T KNOW FOLKS WOULD BE SO OFFENDED BY THE USE OF UPPER OR LOWER CASE LETTERS AS LONG AS THE MESSAGE GOT ACROSS.

The use of caps lock on is considered "yelling". Personally i don't care as long as i get some good tips. Lol. And you guys have given me some good tips so far. This whole thing is going to be trial and error for me. And i am not to afraid of trial and error. I want to learn to do this kind of thing. So i might as well start learning on my own guns.

There is a great four part series on YouTube that I would watch if I were you. Even if you don't follow their process 100%, it'll still give you some great knowledge to go on. Here's part 1

THERE AGAIN - MY METHODS ARE PERSONAL PREFERENCE FOR ME
I USE THE LINSEED & TUR. BECAUSE IT GOES DEEP IN THE WOOD PORES.
MOST FOLKS YOU TALK TO WON'T DO THAT BECAUSE IT TAKES A LONG TIME AND IT'S MESSY.
IT IS.
I'VE ONLY USED POLY ON ONE GUN, A NEF I KEEP IN THE COUNTRY, BUT I WON'T ANY MORE BECAUSE IF YOU DING IT, IT LEAVES AN UNPROTECTED SPOT IN THE WOOD, LIKE A DING IN YOUR CARS PAINT.
THERE AGAIN JUST PERSONAL PREFERENCE.
