I am new to hog / bore hunting but am very excited about getting into the woods for my first pig. Can anyone provide some strategy tips on finding and stalking hog? I really need to understand the signs and times for locating them.
Thanks in advance.

baiting is certainly a better approach. Dig holes and fill with corn/hog wild and jello
wait and shoot

I understand that it could be days / weeks before a hog will find the bait.
There has to be better strategy than that!
I have found fresh tracks - knowing that, will they typically return to the same spots and what times do they usually move?

It depends on your area, if you are in the river bottoms, or have the only water source then you may be able to fiqure them out. If there is water around other areas, and lots of other food sources they can be completely random. I going on 7 weeks without seeing any hogs here, but they might be back tomorrow. They seem to just wonder around.

I have found fresh tracks -
You have to bait where there is already sign. You don't just walk out and dump bait and sit there. Try to find sign of bedding or travel routes. Travel routes close to bedding area if possible. Bait there and sit there in the evenings...stay late with a spotlight. The warmer it is the later they will travel.
While scouting you might just kill two birds with one stone. If you find where they are bedding you are sure to hammer them. They will be bedded during the day.

heres the stragedy i use, dig a hole about 6" deep 2' by 6' hole size will vary,.. strip down naked, have wife or significant other coat you in molasses, roll around in a pile of corn till completely coated making sure to get all folds, ripples, or crevices, covered evenly, gently walk over to hole and lay prone perfectly still with a leatherman in one hand and snacks in the other in case you get hungry, wait till the hogs start eating corn off your body and pull the leatherman tool of choice out and slay the feral beast!! the pliers are my personal weapon of choice, use them to grab the sows by the teats, the boars by the............... well you know....... results may vary

Wet, shadey areas. If there are hogs there and you find water or mud with shade...you'll find bedding areas.

OH..... I see, well this is all my mistake, I should have been able to tell from your original post, and i quote
"I am new to hog/BORE hunting " that you were a BORE, not to be confused with a "boar" which is a male hog, at least in east Texas that is, (I'm just going out on a limb here and guessing your from the Frisco area), and you city boys may have more better smarts than us ETR's, not a process used to make a hole in something, which i believe, (and may yet again be mistaken) which would be BORE
But all in all, I am glad you are excited about getting into the woods for your first pig, a spell in the country might do you a fer piece of good relieving all that stress you seem to have built up inside you.
But if you do find your self lost in said woods, dont call me cause I'm prolly to ignert to find you. I'm out
EDIT: Translation for the city fellers ETR= East Texas Redneck fer= quite a bit prolly= probably ignert=ignorant more better smarts= smarter

ETR= East Texas Redneck
Thanks for pointing out my spelling mistake and making that into yet another ignorant response.
Anyhow, 'East Texas' is all you had to say. I am used to your kind. It actually surprises me that you have the smarts to point out such a difficult spelling error.
ET is FAR from being country - that is, if you think that because you come from east of Dallas you are some type of country boy. Bet you have the entire collection of Garth Brooks CD's along with your rubber boots tucked snugly behind the cab of your diesel truck. Maybe even the decal of a deer skull displayed on your back window.
I do appreciate you trying to educate me on back-woods slang but the only thing I came to this site for was a little advice - not sarcastic remarks from folks like you...
Lastly - 'Since you can read' (Frisco Hunter) My user name - WOW, you continue to amaze me with your cunning wit! Thank you for pointing out that I actually live in a suburban area.
You are a smart mofo.

Valley Creek Tx, half way between Leonard Tx, and Randolph Tx, on fm 896, co rd 4650, Fannin county Tx, NOT THE VALLY CREEK THATS ON THE MAP, 1. get a sense of humor....... it helps 2. never assume, google maps dosn't show what aint on the map 3. try to be just a bit less of a smart arse 4. try making friends instead of enemys 5. you have never even MET my kind...... your still here 5. Welcome to Texas........now go home 6. get a sense of humor... it helps 7. Have you really even tried the molasses and corn method??... it works...... and a lot of fun.... just kinda like riding a moped.... a lot of fun, just dont let your friends see you 8. get a sense of humor... it helps 9. open your mind and close your mouth.... you will be suprised what you can learn....... even from ETR's 10. get a sense of humor,.. It helps...I think that big mall in Frisco sells them in one of those upwardly trendy places like the Gap or Old Navy or maybe even Victoria's secret ( I LOVE THEIR WEBSIGHT!!) 11. I have a freezer 3/4 full of deer and hog meat ( it was a bad year........ damn AR countys!!) And you????

Honestly I think Redneck was just making a funny which is a big part of this forum. It actually MAKES this forum as far as I am concerned. I can see however how you would have taken his post wrong. No need for anyone to get into a big "to do" over it though. There has been some real good advice given and some good yucks as well. No biggy!
Hell, when it comes to ignorant responses I am probably at the head of the line most of the time! Don't sweat the small stuff.
