Im originally from Missouri, but now Im stationed in Abilene, TX. Last few years I have tried to find places to hunt and trap; Ive even tried just tagging along with some one to run some lines, had a few guys say they would get a hold of me, but they never did contact me. It seems alomost impossible to find places to hunt or trap in Texas unless you want to drop a bunch a money on a lease or drive a few hours to a decent public area, which I have done. And to add to that, I dont know very many locals, which makes it rough too. I figured I would take a shot in the dark and see if anyone on here could help me out.

start visiting the feed stores around the Abilene area,(preferably not the chain type stores) get to know some of the owners/managers and build from there out to the landowners. It'll take some time but it will give them a chance to get to know you and allow you a chance to learn what the landowners will expect from you. Also check out the Texas Trappers website I'd bet there is someone close to you that may be able to steer you a little closer also.

By the way, what do you do in the USAF? I'm trying to get my daughter to put in for Abilene when her tour is up in Hawaii, you know, get her closer to home. She was actually at Whiteman AFB before going to Hawaii.

I would be trying to trap for coyote, bobcat, fox, and coon. I am a electrical and environmental journeyman on the c-130's here. Yeah that would be great for you and the family for her to get closer.

My son-in-law, I guess they still call them crew chiefs, worked on B-1's at Whiteman, and now C-17's in Hawaii.

Let me do some checking around for you. I may know someone, but in the meantime, talk to Kevin @ Jackson Brothers feed store and see if he knows anyone.

If it weren't so close to bow season, I would let you come out to my lease and trap all the dang coons and yotes you could get your hands on.

I know how that goes KewlDeals. I usually go back home for a week for deer season or put in for Iowa and hunt with my brother. I missed the drawing this year though because I was in Afghanistan, but I have a Wyoming antelope hunt planned for next year! Last year I went over to Aquilla Lake and shot a doe and last spring took a gobbler there too. You have any bucks make your hit list yet?

Some 2 1/2's that will be good if they make it for a couple of years, but haven't seen anything yet I want to put an arrow in.
