The best chicken fried steak I've had in the state had to be from the Paraiso Restaurant in Zapata. The full size portion hangs over the platter and they aren't stingy with the side dishes or tea. Paraiso is on the north end of Zapata on the west side of US 83. 2nd best was at Durty Gurty's west of the 610 loop in Houston. I think Durty's was off of Westheimer, but can't really remember. They were a real close 2nd to the Paraiso. JMO

Bud Jones Restaurant in San Antonio is my favorite now. Used to be The Little Red Barn but, their cut of meat they are using now is too tough and it is much smaller than it used to be. Bud Jones chicken fried steak is big enough to tame my appetite.

Mary's in Strawn and Babe's Chicken House in Burleson....there are several Babe's in the FW/D area, with the original in Roanoke, but the Burleson site is the only one I've been to.

We went to the Little Red Barn a lot during the spring and summer of '86 when we had a long long trial in federal court in SA. I don't remember the chicken fried steak there, but back in the day that was a pretty good place.

Back then, Ralph Hernandez, the owner, was still running the everyday operation. Now, his daughters have taken it over and they are still pretty good but nowhere near what they used to be. For a "quick" steak dinner that is moderately priced and "okay" by my standards, it is still an alright place to eat.

I second "mary's" with the corona's in the coozies and the hot waitresses. "Mrs Alan's" in Sweetwater has CFS sometime and everything they have is great. I meet new people everytime I'm there because you sit at huge tables all together. All you can eat $8.00 including the drink.

The Belfry in Weinert. Tender enough to cut with a fork. But all the food there is great!

One more vote for Mary's, get the large, then take a nap. Try Georges Bar in Waco, had one last week, it is up there on the list.

Mary's. Oh man I might have to make the trip tomorrow now that i'm thinking of it. Coldest beer around too.

We could go on for years on this subject. If you guys are ever in Moss Hill, Texas go to Reds. You won't be able to eat it all.
