 My boy got his first rabbit yesterday.

He was so proud. He shot it with his .22. Just thought I would share the pic he looks so happy in them.

Momma usually helps clean animals, so she doesn't say anything as long as it gets cleaned up. She had to debone and put up the last hog she killed, because I was out of town.

Yeah, I told him to shoot for the head. Today we are going to do some more shooting, I leave for a week tomorrow.

Let me know when the "rabbit & gravy" is ready. Its been awhile since I've had some.
Believe it or not Missouri considers rabbits "game animals" & thus we have a season (usually October thru about mid February). I take it Texas either has a long season or open season year round.

No season on rabbits, can even hunt them at night with a light. I am thinking about frying them like chicken, but don't know yet. I have 4 in the freezer, and will cook them next time I am off work.

Thanks, it was my pleasure. They both got their first deer this year also. The youngest one got a 120lb doe, and the oldest got a 85lb doe.

Yeah baby! 
Congrats to your boys, those are some big cottontails for this area. I've seen a noticeable decrease in rabbit population and size over the years, less forage more fire ants? 
You can also braise those guys and make a serious pot o' gumbo or pasta.

We have lots of cotton tails on my place, we saw 4 in the 20 minutes we were walking around.
