hi guys, well ive been hunting for almost 3yrs now and finally decided to actually buy my own rifle and lease some land and put work into it, with doing this i ran into a marlin cl7 in .270 cal i would like some opinions on pros and cons ti this rifle if any. I like the feel to it and the action is pretty great without a big price can you help out any thanks.

It's way more accurate than guns twice the price.

You can't go wrong with it. One of my rifles is a Marlin XS7 in 7mm-08. My son has a Marlin XS7 in .308. Very accurate rifles.

I have one in .270 that I put a Redfield Revolution 3x9 scope on. I did alot of looking around and could not find anything that could come close to it in the same price range, and have been very pleased with the rifle.

In my opinion it would be hard to justify spending twice the money or more on a different rifle that would not do anything any better than the $300 Marlin.

those are nice rifles. They have an incredible trigger and you can change the barrels like a savage. $290 seems to be a nice deal, that pro staff is one of my favorites. Go over all the scope mount screws and make sure to use thread lock otherwise you will eventually have loose scope bases. The scope bases come pre-installed and they dont use any locktite so it is just a matter of time before they come loose on you. Do it now before you get your scope zeroed. If it is zeroed and you take it off you should be real close when you put it back on if you pay attention to how it was mounted (look for the wear marks in finish)

I was able to hit the bottom half of an Easter egg at 60 yards with my 30-06 XL7. It is crazy accurate but kicks like a horse. I also dropped a 13 point buck and quite a few hogs my first year of hunting with it.

I did some research on them and supposed to be pretty accurate. No personal experience though.

Shot one in 270 at the range oneday that a coworker bought. He wanted me to go with him to sight in the scope. 6 shots down range scope was on and had a nice 3/4 inch group for the last 3 shots. Not bad IMO.

Have a couple of the Marlin X rifles, a 25-06 and .308. Decent rifle for its price and has a nice adjustable trigger too. Have no complaints about their accuracy. Own a couple of Stevens 200s and a Savage Axis....prefer the Marlins when it comes to an entry priced rifle.

Have a 7mm08 with Boyd's thumbhole stock (hate plastic stocks). Love the rifle. Accurate especially for the price.

I have an XS7 in .308 and it is accurate and reliable and I'm very satisfied with it.

The lightweight composite stock makes it easy to carry but also contributes to the sharp recoil. Mine will get a Boyd's laminate stock and a good recoil pad at some point.
