Hey guys the wife and I are heading down to San Antonio tonight. Give suggestions on the best mexican restaraunt there. I would like to go to a place on the Riverwalk.
You can text it to me at 256.282.4820 as we will be heading out in an hour or so.
Thanks, Clay

Wife and kids love Casa Rio. I prefer Mi Tierra, only because they serve Cabrito. Generous portions though, from both places.

My wife and I went to SA two summers ago and spent about 5 days there. Ate at a bunch of places, including Mi Tierra, a couple of places on the river walk, and frankly had better Mexican food here in Dallas. There was a place in North SA that was in a shopping center that was the best of all of them.

There is a papasito's here in S.A. but, the man was asking for a place on the riverwalk!! Casa Rio is the best on the riverwalk---not the best in S.A. There are some hole in the wall places that are better!! Eeho's on broadway is better then most. Been along time since I ate there though!!

La Fogata has good atmosphere and great margarita's but I really do not care for their food much. Not bad but, not as good as others. Besides, I have been in their kitchen....yuck!!

What gave it away?
I've been there about 4 times in Richardson, a couple in Dallas, and twice in Austin...and it's awful...JMO.
Tried different things, just don't like it. I don't like many chains though...
While we're here, my favorites in various places are...
in no order...
the aforementioned Mi Tierra and Casa Rio in SA
El Arroyo's on west 5th in Austin...
Iron Cactus in Austin/6th Street,
Raphaels' on 380 in Prosper?
RJ's in west end (but its not really mexican mexican)
El Sombrero in Cash (Greenville)
Old school favorites...
Trinidad's in Dalhart Herrerra's in Dallas the place with the wagon in front of it in Nacogdoches
and the all-time greatest...
La Hacienda in Greenville (not La Hacienda Ranch)

What are yall trying to say? Are you saying that Dallas mexicans are inferior to SA mexicans? Go down off Industrial, hell even the McDonalds there has tacos on the menu.
And just about every restaurant in Dallas, you have to speak spanish to work in the kitchen. Come to think of it, the last hibachi chinese/japanese place I went to, the guy cutting, cooking, and flippin stuff in the air was mexican.
You gotta get into East Dallas and go into those areas where you're almost afraid to drive without a gun. Not Grapevine or HEB. And stay away from that salsa that comes out of a jar, I don't care if it was made in SA, it sucks.

No, I think there are good ones and bad ones everywhere.
ONly think out of a jar close to that I eat is Hell on the Red, and its a chow-chow not a salsa.

yep, la fogata is really good. and la hacienda (sp?) on redland and 281 is the second best. still not as good as my hometown mexican food, but i think that goes for everyone. If you were raised in san antonio and go to my hometown and eat, you probably wouldn't care for it much either.
