A good 357 wheel gun is hard to beat. Fill a couple of holes with snake shot and the others with your favorite womper stompers.

I would say it comes down to either a good 45 pistol or 357 revolver.

Personally, I would go with a high capactiy fullsized 45 auto. More specifically, the FNP tactical 45 has recently become my favorite full size 45. 17, yes I said 17, 45 acp's. There's not much that can't handle. pair that with 2 extra mags an you're ready to go.

Also, I agree how you carry it is vital. Once again personal opinion, i love around the leg holsters for overall comfort.

If they made 10mm snake shot I would say there isn't a better firearm than the glock 29. But its what i carry and just shoot snakes in the head.

Much lighter than a wheel gun nearly as powerful and more shots with a long enough slide to get a good sight picture.

20ga youth model 870 does me more good than a pistol ever wood.

Only thing I cary a side arm for is snakes, and Ive seen way to many people empty a pistol and watch a snake crawl away.

How far south? Are we talking near the border where drug runners are a problem? If so I say whatever you can fit in the truck. Lol. An AR in .223 would be handy, 30 rounds and .223 will easily take down a coyote

Terrible advice in my opinion....

.22 with rat shot isn't all that effective on snakes and if you start flinging slow-moving hollow points into the rocks....you are asking for a ricochet (or a piece of gravel to fly into your eye)

Wouldn't that be with any gun though? I've never had that problem. I guess depends on the ranch too. If you've got a lot of dirt and rock. Mine was pasture so .22 was fine

No....that's why I said I carry my S&W Governor with two rounds of .410 #9 shot for snakes. I would never recommend shooting bullets straight into the ground at a snake if there are any rocks or gravel.

I have shot hand guns since I had black hair and I can tell you that the best thing to do is shoot your friends pistols, find one you can shoot well, and that is what you should carry! If you can't hit what your are aiming at, it doesn't matter what the caliber is. I own from 22lr up to 454 Casull. I carry one of my 9mm most of the time because of 13 pistols, I can shoot my CZ 75BD quick shootin better than any of the rest.

Just me man.

I think anything you shoot at gravel could ricochet at you or rock fragments could hit you. But a lot of ranches are pastors so I'd say shooting a .22 would be fine. But I agree shooting at any rocks would lack wisdom

Heck yeah! Those convertibles are drying up fast and 9mm is waaaaay cheaper than .357 for plinking.

Good choice! The convertables are nice, I've got a couple and really like the 45ACP/45LC.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Darn good choice and a perfect all around round combination.
