Does anyone still use a horse around their ranch? I'm not referring to an old brand of ATV, I mean a real flesh and blood horse. If so, what kind of things do you use them for? I have a horse and I'm kinda wondering if there's a way to get some use out of him. I know it's much easier to just haul a 4 wheeler, so you have to like horses to want to do it. Anyway, are there any stories, comments, or suggestions out there?

We had horses when I was growing up.I had my fill of them then. Now I don't even like looking at them. They are like airplanes, boats and other toys. It is a lot cheaper and easier to rent one than to own one.

I use them for cattle. I keep minimun one goood broke ranch gelding all the time. The ("been there, done that kind") worth their weight in feed, also one good black mouth cur dog to root them out of the brush. If they are the "usein' kind" of horse they earn their keep. My stock trailer has 3 gates, I can haul dogs, horses and cattle at the same time. Or any combonation needed. Just depends on what/how many I'm workin'. Now, that's not to say the 4 wheeler just sits in the shed. Time & place for all. Brahman's don't like to be worked, if they hear the truck/trailer comin' they all head for the back fence. Pain in the azz at times.

Don't have them anymore...but used them quite a bit when country living in Utah. Mainly cattle but used to hunt elk and cougar from the top of one.
