After seeing the photo, I raise my bet on it being coyotes.
Anyone willing to call or raise?

I can see that when I replaced the batteries, I didn't reset the clock. I hadn't noticed that. The picture was taken a day or two ago and not in January of 2010. The next hole downstream of there is much more oval than the one in the picture.
If you were standing in the creek, the hole would be at eye level or at least 5 feet up from creek bottom.

Oval= badger in my eyes, but it could be yotes. If it is yotes the pups should all be outta the dens but now. I've already seen half grown ones.

I was gonna do it this morning, but instead got into changing motor oil and gear oil in our two 4wheelers. I'm whupped from up and down and back and forth to get the right sized socket or allen wrench. I'll go get the memory chip either later today or tomorrow. I'm de-greased and showered right now. And I'd have done it the last several days, but had the little grandkids here and was catering to them.
If I don't have any pictures on the camera, I'll take another camera back there and try to put it in front of one of the other holes. I have to be careful of the weather, because that's in a flood zone (flash floods) when we get a good rain, and the water gets amazingly deep back in that area. I know that from when Mother Nature killed my Bushnell game camera. I thought I had put it up high enough, but when I opened it and water ran out I knew I had misjudged. But..not supposed to rain for a while, so I'll risk it.
As for possible animals doing the digging, I suppose that it could be armadillos, but I've never seen one dig on a steep bank like that. I've got a lot of coyotes, so that's possible. I haven't seen a beaver in years, and the hole seems too far from water. As for foxes, I don't have but one on a game camera photo in the past 4 or 5 years. I've never seen a badger here, either in person or on a camera picture. Maybe I should climb down in there and check for tracks. That might tell me what it is. If it was coyotes and the pups are out on their own now, I may not get a critter picture. Anyway, stay tuned. I'll go check the camera very soon.

Probably a badger. Them suckers can dig! If you have ever seen the front claws on one u would know why. I've seen a couple running around after we had never ever seen one over many years

My money is on Skunk. Choice number two is raccoon. Choice number three is Mexican drug smugglers.

I just had a look at the pictures, which are just more pictures of the hole itself, and there has been no critter activity around the hole (or I'd have pictures of a critter). I climbed down into the creek and had a look at all the holes and there are no clear prints. The big hole that I haven't had the camera in front of isn't just one hole. It's 3 holes that all start from the bigger oval central hole. The critter, whatever it is, must have raised a litter and then moved on.
I'm sorry that I got everybody interested and then can't provide an answer. But...the camera stays there for a while.
So...I still can't prove or disprove that it was Bilbo Baggins or Mexican drug smugglers or dwarves.
