I like to watch these guys and the swallows. They track the tractors when we mow, great entertainment.

I was never confused but I have seen scissor tails try to breed Mojo doves on three occassions.

Scissor tail mate during the late summer by flying up high and mating on the downfall. Used to have some at the ranch in the tree around house. They will fly over a hawk and dive bomb them or peck thier head till the hawk tuck wing and fly away.
Fun to watch aerobatics cheers

Reproduction:

Male scissor-tailed flycatchers have an elaborate courtship flight that consists of dives, zigzags and somersaults, which they may repeat even after a pair is mated. Once mated, these birds are monogamous and the female parent will incubate a brood of 2-6 eggs for 14-17 days. After the eggs hatch, both parents care for the altricial young for an additional 15-16 days. Only one brood is raised each year.

Scissor-tailed flycatchers occasionally hybridize with related kingbirds, including Couch's and western kingbirds.
