I am thinking of having the barrel cut down on my Savage Model 10 heavy barrel 308 from a 24'' to a 20'' to help maneuverability in and out of the truck, mule , etc. I am not sure how much it will affect overall accuracy and distance. Need some advice.

It shouldn't affect accuracy at all, maybe drop the fps some, but not enough to be major factor. I've got a Rem 700 SPS Tact. AAC-SD and I really like the length of the 20" barrel.

I have the AAC-SD as well, love the 20" barrel, but one thing is the AAC is a 1 in 10 twist, if the savage is a 1 in 12 and you shop it down, you may lose some accuracy if using bullets heavier than a 168Gr. Atleast that is what I am told.
HHUUMMMM, what to write, what to write, I got nothing.

With savage it would probably be cheaper/free to sell the 24" and buy a 20" for what it would cost to cut and crown.

However after buying my first 20" .308 I couldn't imagine dealing with longer barrel in any hunting applications.

lopping off 4" isnt going to change your life much climbing in and out of your truck twice a day. Choate makes a folding stock that could shorten the gun by much more than 4" and it would probably cost about as much as the gun smithing and save you the down time, major re-sighting etc.

Chances are if you are having trouble with the 24 inches cutting off 4 isnt going to help. I have a 26 on my go to blind rifle and its not an issue. You get used to it.

You will loose about 15 to 25 fps per inch, so about 60 to 100 fps, depending on bullet weight. If it's just used for hunting, 4" won't matter. If it's being used for 1K yard shooting, then it could matter.

It won't affect accuracy. But it will change the barrel harmony. It might start preferring other ammos and you'll probably have to develop a new load (if you reload).

Sell the savage and buy a Remington SPS Tactical I guarantee my savage fcp .308 is just as accurate if not better than a stock Remington 700 :-)

It was a toss up between that and a 700AAC. I've had a plain SPS Tactical and wasn't a fan of the stock. The trigger on my old one wasn't what it should've been, (even though I've felt other SPSTact. triggers that were better). My only issue with the 10pc5r is that the bolt is a little sloppy. Aside from that, I've been very satisfied with the rifle. oh, minus the digital camo on the stock. I'm still not sure what to think of it.

Won't affect accuracy if done right.
Unless you shoot out past 700yds, 20" is the way to go for sure.

but only with FGGM right? lol

It will be a lot louder from the shooter's perspective if you lop it to 20". I'd not go less than 22" if it is used without ear protection, ever.

22lr shooters find that they can shorten the barrel down to about 16" without affecting accuracy negatively. They figure it is because all the powder is burned by the time the bullet exits the barrel.
Consider that before you choose to cut the 308 barrel.

I heard a wise Indian once say the performance between 18 and 22 was very similar so 20 isn't ideal you mine as well go down to 18.
