Okay guys looking for your advise.
I am planing to add a dozen black ducks to my spread this year, I have read that the black ducks can be more visiable to the duck flying over?? Second option painting some old decoys flat black? Any input would be greatful..
Also I want to make a few quivering duck decoys to throw in the mix. I plan on using Quiver Magnets and putting them in a couple butt ducks and or decoys.. Are these reliable to get a couple seasons with or do they begin to fail in the first year.. I have seen mixed reviews?
Again any input would be helpful..
Thanks, Robert

I've also heard mixed reviews on the quiver magnets, I know it's almost a cliche but I'd just stick to a few decoys on a jerk string instead of spending all the money on the magnets. I painted a few decoys flat black, maybe I didn't paint enough to make a difference but I didn't see it help any, and honestly I kind of felt stupid hunting with pure black decoys.

I repainted some flamblow mallards into blackjacks for attention getters pretty easy I would get the quiver ducks or quiver butts that are premade vs putting a quiver magnet inside one. I use quiver magnets by themselves placed in between decoys.

I thought about buying black duck deks to use as mottle ducks. There was always a bunch of them at the lease I was on last year and other species tended to land with them in small pockets.
As for the magnets, I've never used them but they couldn't hurt. That ol' jerk string works well if you are completly concealed, but if you aren't your just waving at them.

Thanks guys, I do not have alot of experience with the jerk rig because we have to set up with a temperary blind every hunt on my lease. I just figured I would have a tangeled mess before and after each hunt..??

i painted about half a dozen gadwall dekes solid black a few years ago and liked the results i had. just looking out from my blind i could see an immediate difference, i couldn't imagine what it looked like from the air. white is another option. while i wouldn't paint an duck entirely white, i do go over the already white parts on the decoys i have and make sure they're freshened up.

Black deeks show up better from distance than white, I would get coot decoys before I bought black duck deeks.

Hayraker, those blackjacks are lookin good.
OP: Just setup where you see ducks and match your dekes to those birds. Trust me they see your dekes if they are flying over/around/far off you need to address the problem.
A) Not in flight path B) Not on X C) Flaring birds off
To address the issues you can make several changes
A) Add motion to get more viewing time B) Move closer to X C) Check, then re-check your blind/hunting partners for "flare off items"
In the end time is the key, not a certain deke/setup, sure these work sometimes. But to kill ducks when everyone else is scratching there heads you need to study the birds, learn there ways.
And always have the jerk cord in your blind bag, I've killed a lot of birds over a jerk rig and 2-5 dekes.
Good luck and stay safe.
