We have been shooting laupa 139 non coated 6.5 bullets. We have never used theses for hunting yet and I'm trying to load for my aoudad hunt. Was wondering if it did this to a t-post would it be okay for aoudad. This is a 300 win mag necked down to 264. Shooting 3390 fps. The pic is the target at 800 yards. We are just dialing it in and the 2 shoot group were the 2 that went through the t-post

There are a few people that have used them with good success, on an aoudad I would prefer a stronger bullet. That being said put in the boiler room and anything will work.

Havenot used that nullet on anything but paper but they sure have been accurate. I would like a tougher bullet but that one in the boiler room like Dee said should do the job

I read some about an outfitter guy on another "channel" based in the northern Rockies who use Scenar's at ++ distances a bunch for everything from 'yotes & elk to black bears successfully in 140 gr ?7-08's as I recall. Guns are set up with shortish ummm 22" mebbe light bull barrels in Mickey stocks & bipods with good glass. Runs the green horn nimrods thru a quick familarization at distance range session and sends then on their way since almost none of the neophyte hunters have shot anything but paper or at more than 100 yds.
Last Pic's I saw earlier this year was where a barely more than a beginning experience level young teenaged high school girl took her first Elk at +500 yards with the guide spotting the shot with big glass. Bullet was thru & thru with perfect placement. Don't get any better than dead on contact! Ron

If you are looking for penetration tests for that bullet, set up a milk jug lineup 6-8 deep full of water, put a 1/4" piece of plywood 'tween 'em, tie 'em tight in place with a rope and see where the bullet stops. Only messy part is having to replace the jugs after each shot. I think you'll be pleased at the penetration validation since you got the accuracy part down.
You must be shooting at the 1K range off Hwy 29 west of G'Town. Cheers Ron

I used Lapua projectiles exclusively to hunt and cull shoot with in all of my rifles from 22-250 to 338 Win Mag..and have never had a problem with them, except I sometimes work a little while getting the proper load and group..DD

Im sure it would work, but like others have said I would look at an accubond, or a swift sirroco if they make 6.5 cal.. not sure they do though.

TSX would be my choice but with a .264wm if you have a good solid bullet you will be just fine

Only reason I dont like the tsx is that I am asuming he is planning on streching things out with showing the target at 800 yards. In light for cal hivelocity impacts the tsx work good. At 800 yards I want something else.

Iv talked with a gunsmith that knew the makers of the barnes and the main thing he liked about them is that they wouldnt open up down range...it was his main bullet he shot for long shots and reloaded them for his .264wm. could have been full of it but from the ballistics that barnes puts out i would think they would be awsome down range ammo

In that instance I would choose the Accubond or Scirocco.

Barnes TTSX's have a slightly larger HP opening behind the delrin tip than a TSX does I'm told...and might be the best choice in the Barnes lineup.
Nosler makes 6.5 AccuBonds in 130 & 140 gr'ers and would a good LR choice. My old T3 Swede luv'd 130gr AB's bigtime! Can't say one way or the other about Swift's, but 125 gr Partitions would also IMO be a great choice. However 120 OR 130 gr Barnes makes a lot of sense to me. I still think the Lapua's are the way to go though since they are proven accuracy wise in the OP's shooter, and have a long successful history on bigger critters world wide...and busted the Pooh Wah Diddle outta that TPole at 800 yards. JMHO & YMMV Ron

In my opinion the sirrocos are better than the accubonds. I shot a big hog with a 165 grain sirroco from a hot loaded 300 ultra at about 65 yards. The bullet expanded to 1 inch in diameter and layed up under the skin on the off side. Weight retention was north of 70%, it was an awsome thing to see.

I was using the barnes tsx. Then when we ordered a new box, they had changed the ogee(sp) and the ballistics changed. Also weighing the barnes, we had a lot different weights in them compared to lapua. in a box of fifty ther were only like 6 or so of each weight....5 139.2. 8. 139.8. Ect....
I don't plan on having to shoot that far, just would like to know I can if I had too. My comfortable range is 5-600.
I'm on my fil property.
