My lab cut the tip of her tail a few weeks ago, and because of how much she wags her tail it keeps hitting the wall and other things it has not been able to heal(actually made it considerably worse). I've taken her to the vet, and have medicine for her, but the bandage they put on was a joke and only lasted 30 minutes at most. Has anyone else had this problem and have a good way to take care of it? The vet said the alternative was to amputate part of the tail.

Have the same problem with a pointer. Take a finger from a leather glove and duct tape to secure it. sometines use finger from plastic glove. Some leave it on others will try and remove. Before adding either put EMT gell on the tip of tail, best I've found for healing it.

we have a female that wacks her tail and tears up the end all the time I use cut close its a antiseptic powder which will stop the bleeding. Once the bleeding has stopped I use vetercin vf to help heal it and promote hair growth. I have tried bandages but never been able to keep them on her.
-good luck

-good luck This is what I use also for my dogs on cuts and stuff. Tails are hard to keep bandaged. Sometimes I just crate them until they are healed enough.

I cut the end off of a Gatorade bottle for the last few days and have been using duct tape to keep it on, but its been coming off. So I just cleaned it up and wrapped the wound in triple antibiotic followed by a layer of bandages tapped with medical tape then wrapped with cloth tape, then wrapped with pipe insulation and finally zip tied on... hopefully this will stay on for more than 30 min.

I had a similar problem with a previous dog and we ended up getting a large syringe cover from the vet and taped that to cover the tip of the tale to give it a chance to heal. We had to tape well beyond the end of the plastic cover to keep it on. We would usually have to re-tape at least once or twice a day. We also often had to use the cone of shame to keep him from chewing the tape off immediately.
Good luck!

it heals wounds faster and kills the germs/bacteria and such. Once wound is healed hair should be able to grow back.
