I broke a screw on a scope mount today, and I really don't like the setup anyway, so I'm going to replace rather than repair.

what type of mount and rings do you prefer?

this is on a Winchester model 70

Get a picatiny rail base and some solid rings to mount to it. If you can have your action re-threaded to the bigger threading, this will help make it more sturdy.

You break the screw off in the rifle receiver or on the scope ring?

I broke a screw on the rings while torqueing it down. I had taken the scope off of the rifle when I disassembled it to remove a krylon camo job. It is the style that has 2 separate rings on each end, so it has 4 skinny rings holding the scope. The gun has 2 piece weaver mounts.

it is a 223 wssm.

I will probably keep the 2 piece mount and go with some solid rings.

Weaver bases are good, throw some Burris Zee, or Signature Zee, rings on there.

I've had good luck with Leupold one piece bases, the turn in front and screw type rear.

All my rifle scope bases are Leupold....except for two, which are both Warne QD mounts. I like both designs, and haven't had trouble with either.

I use either Leupold or Burris one piece mounts on almost everything I have, zero issues thus far.

Did not buy them, but was a close second to what I bought.

Used Burris Steel Zee Rings, thinking about Leupold PRW rings though.
