In early spring I planted a spring mix in one of my food plots and now I have several of these plants growing up to 4 feet tall. I can't identify what it is. There are a lot of small seeds that look like green pumpkins all over the plant and the stalks are pink. Can anyone tell me what this is?

I don't know what it is but the "pumpkins" turn into a grape color. I think it's poisonous to eat them but not sure. I'd like to know as well.

I think that's what we always called Poke Salad. We eat a bunch of that stuff every spring.

( Phytolaccaceae ) aka, poke weed, poke bush, poke berry, poke sallet, ink berry.
It is an invasive poisonous weed that reproduces quickly mature plants produce long tap root in loose soils making it hard to get rid of.
Deer sometimes will eat the new leaves, birds love the berries when ripe (purpleish black).
I like to eat it ( when the stalks are still green and the leaves young but only when cooked properly).
If were on my land I'd get rid of it asap.

I was always told you had to boil it 3 times and drain off the water and add lard to it,otherwise it can kill you...I'll stick with boiled okra thank you.

Doves tear that mess up. I leave it alone.

Yeah we pick it while its still young, before any of the berries are even on it. And only the smaller leaves on the top of the plant.
I hear it is toxic, unless you cook it right. My family has eaten it for generations, and not once has anyone ever gotten sick.
We always boil it twice, drain, then simmer it with bacon and apple cider vinegar. Very good, and definitely will clean you out. My granddaddy used to always call it a spring tonic.
