You'll have to ask the prison cook how to prepare them. That's where you'll be if you drop one of those.

I heard they taste like chicken when deep fried. Nice pics. Where are these at? See they have the telemetry tracking on them to monitor movements.

Cool pics. I would be getting all the pics of them I could while they are around.

Beautiful pictures. They are from an experimental resident population in South Louisiana. USFW released 10 in Feb last year. Of the 10 two died to predators, one died of illness, two disappeared, two were poached by teenagers who shot them from their truck. 16 more were released last December. I bet they are the remaining birds from the first release. They are the first whooping cranes to reside in Louisiana since 1950.

Teenagers shot two from truck. Oh, man, I did some stupid things over my ( decades of living, but nothing compared to that. Consequences were huge I would guess.

Great photos, thanks for sharing. However, I would let them live, you won't like the aftertaste so to speak....

Thanks for all the compliments. I know this is a once in a lifetime event and am thankful for that. I know people who have gone to Aransas NWR, got in a boat and go down the Intracoastal Canal, crawl up on a levee and are thrilled if the birds are within a 1/4 mile. I was within 30 feet of these birds while taking pictures. One of Nature's most awesome creations. Did you know they break both claws off a crawfish before eating it. One of the little things I learned by watching. I hope they don't leave too soon. Going to watch again tomorrow if they are still there.
