Looking for some sound advice and opinions on these two. Some of this is simply centered around binocs themselves such as; - 42/10 = 4.2, 42/8 = 6, 8x42 has better low-light ability and overall picture quality - 10x42, obviously higher power - 8x42 has larger field of view Past that, what are your thoughts around using them both in Texas and out-of-state? Pros / Cons? Thanks in advance, Gus

I like the 8x42's. I just got the new HD version and they are spectacular and the clarity is just amazing.
I like a little larger field of view but that is just me. If I was mountain hunting and scouting then maybe the 10x42.
Shhhhhhhh better to be quiet than remove all doubt..

Do you do any stalking? If so I like the 8s better as they provide a better view when handheld vs the the 10s because of less shaking.

I will tell you straight up go with the 10's you will not regret it. Much better due to the higher power alone. I had a buddy who had Leica 8x42 Geovids and I had 10's and was able to see so much more detail he sold his and bought the 10's. I carrying shooting sticks when stalking to steady mine on or if not then I just use the clamp my fingers over the bill of my cap to help steady them. I stand hunt in South Texas and walk and rattle. I walk hunt in West Texas. I never walk and hunt without my shooting sticks. To much wind in West Texas. The low light ability is related to the glass quality also. If you have a pair of 8 and 10's in regular binos or no someone who has them try them side by side one day late evening to compare.

I have the 10X42 Geovids, and I'm in Fort Worth if you'd like to test drive them. It was hard for me to turn loose of that much money, but once I got them I haven't had a second thought. Use them much more than I thought I would.

Great comments from everyone, thanks so far! I might also mention that the specs show the these two models will only accurately range down to 33 yards. Forget rifle hunting for a bit and does anyone have any comments on using them for bowhunting and having a problem with this minimum?

Depends on how you bow hunt.
Spot and stalk out West 10x...bc you will be glassing a lot more and further range.
Tx style tree or blind 8x... Just don't need the weight of a 10x, bc the range isn't there.
If your set on swaro step up to the el's....weight and performance are hard to beat, infact pretty much the best package on the market

Can't comment on the Swarks, but I use my Leicas for bowhunting. They range much closer than 33 yards. When I started my search for rangefinding binocs Swark didn't manufacture any that I found. Is this a recent addition to their lineup?

STXRanchman is correct and that is what I am considering; they make rangefinder binocs called 'El Range' in both 8x42's and 10x42's. I have their 5x25x52 BT scope and it's crystal clear. Expensive but I have some cabelas points to spend. So my initial question is around opinions on which one of the two (8x or 10x) and pros and cons.

In that case you can't get around weight so just go 10x

I should add I carry 15x56s also so when I need more power I whip them out and put them on my tripod.

I have had 8, 7, and 10 power Swarovski binoculars. The only ones I have kept are 10x42.
I think 10x50 is better, and I would do that with a laser range finder if it is an option.

My friend just got these ELs, 10x42 and they are great. Only problems are they are $$$$$$ and min range for the laser is 30 yards. Not great for now hunting.

I like th 8X's because the wider field of view.
Nothing against the 10's but when I'm glassing, I pan from left to right and then from close to far. This allows me to break the field into quadrants and really focus on a specific section.
