Several years back I was browsing in a local gun shop in Lufkin, TX. There on the shelf sat a Win. 70 Classic Safari Express in .458 Win Mag. I have zero need for such a rifle but would have really liked to have it. I mean it was practically brand new. It was on consignment for $700 with 13 rounds of ammo. I talked myself out of it. Still think about that gun often

So lets here your stories of the one you let get by or the one you wish you had back. This should be good.....

In the late 80's an old oilman who lost his azz was selling all his stuff from his yachts, caddies, etc. He came to me with a 60's engraved browning citori in a felt lined case with all inserts/chokes/tools from 12ga, 20ga &.410. He wanted $400 and I had squat at that time too. I think of it often.

I was in high school , must have been '69-70, met a fellow
with 2 Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles , one in 22/250 one in
243 , was green with envy over those rifles. Later, I saw them in the paper up for sale , I wanted the 243 , but was too late, he offered me the 22/250 at a great price , but I did not take him up on it. ( Dad said I needed more gun for deer).

Later in life passed on a Colt- Sauer. Just too pretty to shoot.

When I was in College I saw a registered Fleming sear in all 3 calibers for $10,000. I see them now for $17,000 and up but I had little money back then.

Just Recently, found a Sig Sauer P220 Carry SAO w/20 magazines and 2 holsters and the guy wanted 900 +shipping. Well only 10 of the mags where factory and the other 10 where junk as well as the 2 holster so during negotiations somebody hit the buy now and it was gone.

I'm not even shure why I was haggling as the gun and the 10 factory magazines where well worth the 900, that one of those I wanted to slap myself for.

Back in the mid sixties I bought a new winchester 243 auto. I love the gun ,but hard times came and I lost it in a pawn shop. Sure wish I would have found a way to keep it.

Not too big of a deal but I think about it every once in a while. There was a S&W 327 nightguard, 8 shot 357 mag, big dot night sight and an extra fat hammer spur, at a local pawn shop for $675 that looked new. I waited too long and when I went back 2 days later it was gone. I regret not jumping on that but its not like some of your guys though, what were y'all thinking!?!?! peep

I bought a Mosin Nagant from Roses (yes, Roses) in the mid 80s, for less than $100 -- came with the gun and like 20 rounds.

I have no idea where that gun is now, and what is worse, is that I'm actually looking to buy Mosins again....

A mint German k-98. Best one I have personally ever seen. All original. Thought about it 1 day too long. Came back to get it and it was gone.

Winchester 65 with one mark on it a small scratch less than 1/2 inch next to the but plate. Should have bought that one.

A German guild gun in 7.92x57mm. Custom built on a Gew. 98 action with a side-mounted Kahles 6x scope in the storage can. All mint and absolutely beautiful.

The guy wanted $750 for it last year....too bad I was a poor college student then. I guess I could have sold blood, plasma, and other unmentionables. blush

About 10 years ago I had a chance to buy a Colt Sauer Grand African in 458 Win Mag for $600. I thought real hard about it but passed. Wish I could go back in time!

Colt Pythons, variety of 1911's, LC Smith's. Luckily I got some and still have them.

There have been a ton of deals here on the forum that I've missed and kicked myself- a Combat Commander for $500.

The biggest miss ever was an auction on gunbroker back in the early days- it was for a Polish AK, no reserve, starting bid was $1.00 and it had no bids. It went off without anyone bidding, and before I could get logged in and bid the auction ended. I wouldn't have made the guy ship it to me for $1.00, but it still would have been funny...

I have my dad's. He was a reserve officer in the Fla. Marine Patrol back in the late '70's, it was his duty weapon. They are fantastic.

Came into some hard times when I moved down to TX. Sold my 1187 upland special in 20ga, kick myself every now and again for that. However, my son had a great birthday because of it, so that makes up for it. Uncle Sugar paid up 3 weeks later, almost 9 weeks late. oh well, such is life
