LOL

Yeah, they hadn't invented $2000 dollar automatic shotguns made with camo polymer or black cloud shells yet! How did he kill those ducks?

Not true...back then there used to be a sea of nontrash ducks. All you had to do is throw a rock and you'd get half a limit....which back then was probably 25.

Oh yeah...where are his decoys? Guys back then would just roll up on ducks. At least he used a regular shotgun and not a punt gun. I'm not saying the guy was an outlaw it's just they hunted for meat and the market back then so the sport of it was not as important. But who knows what this cat did. I like his pipe. My Grandfather who was born in 1910 and died in 99 used to smoke a pipe...notice how people don't smoke those anymore?

My great grandfather used to duck hunt down by houston in the 20s. I heard it was a two day trip to get there from dallas mostly because you had to open and close all the cattle gates.

One of these days I'm going to fix up his old model 11 and take it hunting. Has my grandfathers initials carved into the stock still.

If he even had any (decoys).

He stood beside an ancient pin oak in a vast, uncut, virgin river bottom. This is a brilliantly bright, bluebird day in late December with temperatures in the mid-30s and a north west breeze, just enough to tickle the still remaining leaves that try courageously to maintain their grasp. I can imagine the water depth at just below the knees that he kicks to send ripples across the otherwise still and coffee stained blackness at the approach of the hungry fowl. As the flight nears, he reaches into the pocket of his tattered canvas hunting coat to get his homemade duckcall fashioned of local cane. Only a few inticing notes are needed. The lead drake has committed and the rest of the massive flock dutifully follows with colors of the spectrum only GOD can create. The majestic mallards wiffle down into the shaddowy canopy much like the leaves of the massive oaks.

That's how I see it.

Yes, he has to have decoys. Nobody has ever set up and killed birds without decoys on a small tank. Ever.

You really have no clue do you? There was lots of people hunting for sport back then. There where big duck clubs with members who had people putting out decoys and feeding corn ( because corn was leagl) presidents hunted ducks they had trains that would take them to the clubs In style. Not every hunter was a market gunner, and if he was market hunting I would say he had a poor day hunting with only 4 mallards. He might have made $ 1.75 for all his work. Learn a little bit about something before you start striking your keys
