Looks like crap out of the box. Have to completely work the brass before the first load. Hope it proves out long term. It compares poorly to the Nosler Custom brass right out of the box. Time will tell.

Those dinged necks are the reason I always just go ahead and resize brand new brass. Why fight it?
I'll bet that Lapua brass works out well. It has a great reputation.

They are not just dinged they are very rough. No real doubt it will be good brass I'm just a little dissappointed considering the price.

I thought the ding factor was what you were pointing out...I see a case mouth that's clearly out of round in the photo. But now that you mention it, I'll often surrender to the need to inside chamfer brand new cases also. Brass prep is a PITA, but skipping steps doesn't do a thing for accuracy.

The brass will prove to be very consistent in weight from piece to piece. The primer flash holes are drilled, not punched. The dinged necks are very minor. Load them and shoot.

The last Lapua brass had 2 that were dinged on the end. Those were 243 that were getting necked down to 22-243. The previous ones were 6.5-284 were loadable from the start but got run through the sizing die anyway.
Those sure do not look like what I have gotten in the past.

i agree with wp75169, premium brass should not look like that. Nosler custom brass does not look like that. But again time will tell which one holds up better.

Both are very good brass, the 2 best available IMO.
Is this for the wifes new toy?

Nope it's actuall more .260 brass. I started neck sizing for two different .260 rifles and thought it would be easier to keep them seperated. With two different kinds of brass. Two days after I ordered $123 worth of Lapua brass she decided to sell hers. Now I have a lot of premium brass for a single ruger m77 mkII. Guess I better buy another one!

After we get some rounds thru her tikka I may order me the sporter version in .260. But then again that's getting up there close to a cooper. The tikka sporter is $1500ish and the cooper I want will be around $2200

I haven't gotten the brass I ordered as yet, but I've gotten brass in that same condition...resized, trimmed and loaded it without problem...I also have wgt.d brass before using it and sep. it into lots..you may surprised at the differences in accuracy if you are wanting inhole groups...The factory Hornady 308 I got w/selected brass worked very well...We'll see about the Lapua..I understand it has a very good life when reloaded several times..DD

I had problems with some 308 brass I purchased, the 100's of 223 I bought have been great.

The Lapua 260 brass I got did not look like that. It was very good. Needed no prep at all, just ready to load. Much better than the Remington.

I've seen Lapua come out perfect with no cleaning up of the necks needed. I've also seen Lapua brass come out beat to heck and needed the necks cleaned up. I think it depends on how it's shipped and how it's handled by the different suppliers by the time you get it.
Also, if the necks are the only thing wrong, just run them up to touch the expander ball. They don't even have to go up over the expander ball and into the sizing die. Just "kiss" the brass with the expander ball, and problem solved. It's no big deal. Try buying Winchester or Rem brass, and this looks minor.

I have some 6.5-284 Lapua brass that I necked down for a 25-284 that has nine firings, so far. No annealing. Just neck sized & shot.

I'm defiantly going to have to debut the neck. Looks they were cut with a haxsaw.

Well it's the same price as the nosler custom brass and the nosler brass was excellent out of the box. Again time will tell. It may turn out to be far superior to the nosler.

I like Winchester brass, never feel bad tossing a piece in the trash, easy to work with, very consistent results at the range.

You guys make it sound like that because a neck is dented or dinged up that it's a sign of crappy brass. It's called case prep. It takes me an extra second to clean up a case neck by running it to touch the expander ball on a Redding T-7 turret press. And I always debur and chamfer anyway.
In you picture you posted, I see 12 cases, and only 2 of them could be cleaned up. Otherwise, they are ready to reload. And honestly, if you are shooting a boat tail bullet, when you seat the bullet, it would straighten out the case neck anyway. So, you don't have to fix that. So, for 2 out of 12 cases, we have this thread.

Chad your getting a little sensitive. The point was they look like crap for $123. It wasn't even the dings I was trying to picture. It's the scrapes and in several cases deep cuts in the mouth that bothered me. Some as deep as .030". Yes we have a thread.

If it's only necks, it's a non-issue no matter what you pay. All new brass no matter who makes it needs to be prepped. Sizing, trim where needed, de-bur and chamfer at a minimum. Unless the necks are squashed flat or split (which has happened in the past) I'd just press on with it.
