can anyone help me out on input for alligator hunting. We aquired a lease that backs to a power plane lake. apparently there are Alligators on it. from what have read there is a season from April til June as long as we have landowner permission? Any particular info i should learn or look up? I looked up the info in the Alligators in Texas. info book.

I may be out in left field, but I thought the landowner was issued permits and you had to use those.
Like I said may be wrong. Navasota had some pics with gators, asuming he has done it, sure he will be along sooner or later

What county are you in? if your in a non-core county then all you have to have is your general hunting license. You also need to go online and print out a wildlife resorce document and have handy for when you get the kill. then you will fill out all info and send to TPWD with $23 dollars unless it changed since last year and they will send you a cites tag witch allows you to legaly own or sale the hyde. If on private land you can use any humane means nessisary to take the gator. Id recomend a set line. prolly the easiest way...or find out were a good one is layin up on the bank and try to pop him right there. You can not pre bait at any time only when you set the line can you have bait out. your allowed one line per person and one gator per person. no matter what you catch on the line big or small you will have to dispatch it and tag it. You are allowed to hunt on a public waterway but you must have permision from the landowner and your bait has to be set on the bank and the gator has to be killed from the land...not in a boat....and there are also restrictions...strength of line, caliber of gun, etc that you have to use on public waterway. but with all this if you end up being in a core county you will have to get a cites tag before hand and i belive its a draw system but not sure since iv never done it that way. hope this helps and let me know if you need anything else..
p.s you will have to have your info on a set line if on public waterway also..

Thanks for the info guys. I did print off the guide and read it. Also called the Game Warden office and also the local game warden this morning to make sure i had all my Ducks in a row. Just getting on the lease in March so looks like i will officialy do my first gator hunt this year. Sounds odd after 30 years of hunting on our ranch and now gonna gator hunt.
ps. NavasotaBred PM i would like some pointers and pics if you have taken some gators in the past?

Update. We were fishing last night at the new deer lease and I thought i saw a snake coming up the creek about dark. Needless to say the Snake turned into about an 8 foot gator and literally swam 5 yards to the banks from us. We assumed he smelled all the catfish on the stringer since i cut there gills to bleed out. after he went under. we saw 2 more in the same creek up a ways. Anyone close to DFW that can help me build a rig or send me one in the mail? Gonna try to get actual pics The Iphone didnt do the job. gotta say it was a very uneasy feeling walking back to the rig

If you want to have a belt or two made from the hide, shoot me a PM. I have tanned gator hides and made belts and knife sheaths from them for several years.
