Was on my way to the ranch this evening and spotted a spider crossing the road but I couldn't stop due to traffic. On my way back home I saw him again, luckily this time nobody was behind me so I jumped out and got a few pics of em with the cell phone. It was huge but I have no clue to what it is.

Where you near Dickens or King counties? They get really big up there. I've seen them almost covering sections of 82/114.

I have seen a few down here in Gonzales when I was a kid but I seem to remember them being all black. Those suckers get pretty big.

Here is one that crawled across my hand while I was digging a Willow stump out of my yard last week. I don't admit to bein scared of em, but this one made me jerk my hand up, lol. They say they don't hurt, but I still don'y like em crawling on me.
Mmmm Hmmm

Their bites do hurt, fangs are 1/8" or better, but their venom usually don't bother humans.

Their number one enemy is a wasp about 2 inches long, she hunts them down, stings them then drags them down a hole and lays an egg on them. The larva then consume the spide while it's still alive but paralized.

I used to see them quite frequently in Midland/Odessa. Now that I'm in the metromess I haven't seen one in ages.
That's a wicked wasp to take down that big hairy thing.
