Hey Guys My son Zale and I have been working on setting up a hog hunting spot at our lease up near Trinity ... got the feeder, lights and camera set up... http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/u..._Ne#Post3210912Now - working on a stand and blind to hunt from: 5 foot tall platform with Pop-Up blind on top.... We built it in the driveway then took it apart and move up to the lease and rebuild... I think it turned out good - what do you think...? 35 yards from front of platform to feeder.... Its timber land so can't cut pine trees... Some very nice game trails at this spot - one coming into the clearing straight toward the blind and two coming in to the clearing from the right going left across the road about 50 to the left... so this spot with very thick brush to our back was my only choice for placement...

start putting the corn out and you will have 10x the game trails.
Nice platform, good elevation to shoot over the cover. Bring some good shooting sticks if you are going to be using a gun

great start. my son and i started the same way but with a 7 foot tower. the next season we put a 6x8 plywood box stand on it because we needed more room to stretch out while waiting on the hogs to come. it also gets a little chilly in the winter time. i had the cheaper popup blind and the wind kept catching it and breaking poles.

Man that looks great. Its even better that your son helped you build it. I love it when my girls help me with projects. It usually takes longer but its way more fun.

Thanks guys
We have had a feeder throwing corn nonstop since Sept 2011 at this spot...
We have not hog hunted this spot up till now - because we were deer hunting this spot or another near spot up until end of this February...
Now with a total transformation of this spot to hog hunting - including new feeder w/ lights and now the elevated platform and stand....
The trail cam of this spot has a "LOT" of pigs...every evening and night...
Going this Sat night - we are excited...

This is a great way for father and son to spend time together. You'll both remember the project for years to come. If you hunt with your son, you won't have to hunt for your son. That pop-up won't last long if left out in the weather 24/7, but that gives you the opportunity for a new project. Congrats!

It was not too expensive = total around $250 spent
(4) 2x6 8 feet long (sides where poles mounted and front and back joist)
(3) 2x6 6 feet long (joist)
(8) 1x6 12 feet long (cut in half) top surface deck
(2) 2inch Rigid Conduit 10 feet long (legs) cut in half (scrap given to me by electrician friend)
1 inch conduit for braces
Nails, joist hangers, bolts, nuts, paint and other hardware was the most expensive stuff

Me Likey! If the blind get tore up over time, just put a 3.5 foot tall rail across the front (maybe sides) with some burlap. It'll keep you mostly hidden and be a whole lot cooler in the summer.

Wow, that sounds like you did really well and the stand looks great! More than likely, I could built the same stand for $2-3K. There would be the $250 for raw materials and then the rest for the trip to the emergency room.
