I've decided to bring my .270 with me mule deer hunting in Colorado this winter. I've been debating as to whether or not I should opt for the heavier load and lost some velocity? Most shots will be under 300yds. Any thoughts?

Yup at that distance there is not enough difference between them to matter. The 140gr is not a bad option either. Find one your rifle shoots well and go hunting.

When reloading, I'll always try to make the rifle shoot an Accubond (140) before trying anything else. I'm loading for WSMs though.

If you shoot a Barnes X product, you can generally reduce the wgt. of the projectile due to the solid copper construction..no
loss of wgt...If you pay attention to shot placement, you should
not have any problem w/any premium projectile..Elk are large targets, so many hunters misjudge range due to their size...DD

I have tried them all and found that the 140gr accubond loaded with reloader 22 is the all around best, and im shooting a .270win

If you dont load then both federal and winchester offer the 140gr accubond in their line.

The 270 is not a picky round, so I would pick whichever shoots the best in your rifle. For under 300 yards, I'd lean to the 130 weights.

I know Im in a slim minority, but Ive been shooting 150 grain partitions in my 270 win. They shoot great in the gun and I have never had one do other than what I felt like was a perfect job, never a complaint.

On my list of bullets to try are accubonds and swift sirrocos.
