Any advice on what kind of fencing (cattle panels?) to use to build a pen to keep the hogs away from my feeders??? Your help as always is appreciated!

The three footers work great on the hogs and cows

Use hog panels not cattle panels. Piglets can squeeze through cattle panels.

As long as you keep the corn inside the pen, it only needs to be big enough for deer to jump in and out easy.

We keep every kernel of corn inside the pen.

Use 10 to 12 and make a circle with feeder in middle

I put up some 20' long x 36" high x 4" panels last week that cost $24.95 each. The feeder throws it outside the pen some but they work great with enough T-posts.

We use 8 - 10 3' hog panels and cut the T-post

Ours look exactly like AdventureTx's. 8-10 panels in a circular pattern (no corners) makes a big enough enclosure that larger bucks feel comfortable jumping in to eat.

3 foot is great because it's easier for deer to jump into not that they won't or can't a 4 fot just easier for the young uns to get to the feed

Cut cattle panels in half and save some money. Works just like hog panels, but half the cost.

Do the hogs try to get under the panels?

They push on them but I have never seen anything to indicate that they tried to get under them.

Just stumbled onto this thread when considering putting pens around my feeders. I was planning on using hog panels, but I like the idea of cutting my costs in half using cattle panels. Do you use 48" high panels, then cut them down to 24"? Any problems with piglets getting through and cleaning up?

Thank you!

If fencing in a broadcast feeder the feed pattern is circular, no corners for animals to feel trapped in, plus round ones are easy to build. I used cable clamps to join the pannels together on the ground then stand them on edge and wrap around in a circle.

Haven't used them cut in half but have cut notches in the tops of the 4 foot cattle pannels where I prefer the deer to enter and exit the pens. For hogs the big ones cannot fit inside the pens and the sows learn they cannot get in and do not usually take the piglets to them from my experience. by the time the piglets are weened they have a hard time fitting through the pannels

We have cattle panels, 52"x16' and the hole on the bottom of the panel are the same as a hog panel. 6" long and only a few inches high, getting taller as they move up from ground level. Baby pigs aren't getting in. I did cut a couple spots down some so to make a lower spot to funnel deer where I want them to enter or leave the pen but it didn't seem to make a difference. I've seen cows jump over hog panels, often landing on them and bending them down, during the recent drought period, to get to the corn. For a couple bucks more per panel it's worth it IMHO.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

I plan on doing this tomorrow. I didn't get to today like planned. When y'all cut the cattle panels down in a few spots to have deer jump certain spots how wide and low do y'all cut them?

I cut out a 7 foot space tried it at 4 feet wide and didnot seem to make a difference, so widened it. Now the does seem to jump there a little more than the rest of the pen.

Hog panels usually work fine but sometimes you get smart hogs that figure out they can jump and they just jump right over it.

Buy taller ones at first. Easier to cut down than to add on. Larger the pen the better you will be.
