Bonedigger that sounds like a good plan. Remington and Hornady both have reduced recoil loads for the 243. Or Chadtrg42 could load you some. If you reload Hodgdon had reduced loads listed on their website.
The Hornady lite ammo is a Cabelas exclusive so that is where you can find it and is available for online ordering. http://www.hornady.com/store/searchammo.php?mode=search&main_cat=249&categoryid%5B%5D=256&categoryid%5B%5D=281&categoryid%5B%5D=1266&x=29&y=11
Good luck, I bet she can handle her 243.

I just saw this, but I think you are making the right choice looking for reduced recoil loads. I don't know what the difference in recoil between 243 and 250 is but I have never noticed it. The noise is more bothersome than recoil to me when it comes to flinching. Make sure she has plugs and good muffs on when she shoots it and I think that will do more than anything.

My 6yo Daughter has been shooting my .22 and .17 HMR and has now moved up to a 22-250. She has not had problems with it, except size eventhough I put a youth stock on it. From a bench or stand it is okay. I would have no qualms about her shooting a hog, doe, or spike with it. Gonna put that to the test this fall.

I would think the almighty would favor something more along the lines of a 378 Weatherby Mag or a 600 Nitro Express, not a little popgun like a 300 WM.

With the right bullet the 5.56/.223 is adequate for deer. My son has killed several deer using using quality HP ammo from 62-75 grain bullet weights.
To say the the .223/5.56 is marginal for coyote is just plain dumb.

22-250 53 gr tsx or ttsx loaded to 3700/3725 is some strong medicine

In the 22-250 I like the Nosler 60gr Partition The 22-243 gets a 75gr Swift Sirocco In the 223 55gr Trophy Bonded or 60gr partition, but the Sig 556 gets the Sirocco
The 22-250 has too slow of a twist rate for the 75gr bullets.
All of those choices have proven very deadly. With the Sirocco being the most impressive, but also most expensive

I'd go with 85gr bullet for the .243. If that don't work then go for the .223. Ammo is a lot cheaper, it's not as loud either, which should help with the flinch too. This equals more trigger time and there's good hunting ammo out there for it.
btw, I've shot yotes out to 400 yards with no problem with a .223. Just need to know your bullet drop and have an accurate rifle is all. Not knocking the 22-250 great cartridge too.

Look, here it is straight, and you can do a "small" amount of research to verify. The bullet size,(caliber),are the same. The speed or velocity, is of absolutly no importance within as said above, 200 yards. You have to use the "right" bullet...I.E. Barnes TSX or something very simular. It really is that simple if you just look it up.For those who are less informed,a standard a-frame bullet like core lock for instance, accually have better penatration at slower speeds(longer distances) because the bullet fragments less. And again as said above, the ammo is cheaper to buy for practice rounds in 223.Good luck to you and yours and thanks for keeping the tradition going.

An A-frame bullet is from Swift and is simular in design to a Nosler Partition but with copper and lead bonded together which gives usually about 90% plus weight retention. I think you ment to say cup and core bullet not a-frame.
Absolute correct in that the faster a bullet is moving at impact the more stress is placed on the bullet leading to more expansion. In addition how a bullet behaves is a lot different depending on what is in its path heavy bone or punch through the ribs.
IMO with the smaller calibers and higher speeds the more critical bullet choice becomes. That is why I will recomend premium bullets every time in calibers like the 2 being discussed here. Bullet and caliber choices should be made based on non-perfect hits. I want a bullet that will reach the vitals with any caliber wether it slips in between ribs or hits that tough bone at the joint between the leg and shoulder blade.

You would be correct sir,I mis spoke when I said A frame.A standard round I.E. corelock is what I meant.A bullet that is designed to stay together is what is needed out of small calliberss for deer.

Thought we were on the same train of thought. My favorite bullet in .224 for deer is from Swift the 75gr Sirocco, but a lot of .224 caliber rifles cannot handle a bullet of that legnth due the twistrate being too slow.

22-250 is a far better cart. w/same recoil or lack thereof..I question your conclusion about her ability to handle a 243..may need a heavier weapon and some bench time..I reg. watch small frame ladies shooting 12 to 13lb tubed skeet guns in competition and 45 Autos at the Club..Sometimes it's a matter of perception on our part..and if you are hunting her from a blind where all she has to do is put it in the window and fire..a 8 to 10 lb weapon is not out of the question...Range time...but you will be disappointed in a couple of yrs when she no longer wants "Daddy" time and like the boys...DD

wrong, he's a fan of the 220 Swift He's from Middle East so I am fairly certain his choice is 7.62x39. Oh wait, why would he need a rifle? Joking aside, I think the best option is to either reload the .243 or shoot managed recoil ammo. Perhaps install an aftermarket recoil pad as well. .243 will do everything the 22-250 will do and then some. Just pick the right bullet and load. If you don't already have one, get a .22LR for practice and have your kids shoot it a LOT. If the .243 is currently too much the last thing you want is for her to develop a fear for the recoil.

Think BoneDigger has a good plan. Thanks for the great input guys. I think I am going to try and have her shoot the .243 before I make a final decision. I would much rather her use what she already has and get used to it. She isn't "petite" at almost 5ft, but she's not used to shooting anything with recoil. So far, it has been the .22 and a pellet rifle for her.
I think I will try and chase down some managed recoil loads, and if not, just go for a standard .243 round and have her shoot standing first as the recoil may seem to be less than shooting from a bench rest.
The gun she has is a Marlin XS7 in .243 with a youth synthetic stock (standard for the gun), and I have an after market Boyd's adult stock for it for when I want to shoot it.
If she does not do well with it, I think I am going to go for the Weatherby in .223. For under 100 yard shots it should be just fine.

No, I am saying he wouldn't need a rifle. I think he was more of a fisherman than hunter anyways. There were no rifles back in his day anyways so a bow would be a more appropriate choice.
