for you folks that shoot 3-gun what combos do you run? what pistol, shotgun, and rifle w/ what optics, suppressed/unsuppressed, caliber?

I shot competitively in college, looking to get back into it, possibly 3-gun.

I'm about to get into the same thing. Also looking to get into some sniper shoots as well. I'm also curious what other people use. I helped with the 3 gun shoot at TacPro a few weeks ago, but I was working the carbine station so I didn't get to see what pistols and shotguns people were using. The carbine station had all kinds of set ups. Some open site and some with optics.

The next one at Tacpro is on October 13th. They also have a 3 gun techniques class on September 29th

Pretty much as long as it shoots well, you can shoot it. take what you're familiar with and go from there.

I have a fairly stock AR with an Aimpoint, a M&P Pro 9mm, and a Benelli Nova w/extended tube that I use regularly(though I did just get a Beretta Xtrema setup). I like the Aimpoint because it keeps me in Limited division and mainly because I just think it's a lot more fun. The largest division will be Tactical Optics which allows you a magnified scope. Tons and tons of guys shoot that class. Most run a 1-4x scope on their AR and then pretty standard pistols and shottys.

There's a huge array of pistols that guys shoot. Glock, Sig, STI, S&W, Beretta, etc. And the same goes for shotguns. The most popular is likely the FN SLP. They are everywhere but there's also a ton of Benellis, Remingtons, Berettas, etc. Just make sure you have an extended tube so that you can carry at least 9 in the gun.

Then you have Open division which basically means that you open your wallet and get whatever you think you need. Pistols have red dots, comps, lightened frames, yada yada. Same goes with shotguns. Lots of Saigas with huge mags or drums and a few guys who run stick loading guns.

I would say you go shoot one and borrow whatever you need when you get there. You let the ROs and the other shooters know that you're a new guy and they'll literally give you the shirt off their back if you need it. Borrow shells caddies, mag pouches, guns, whatever you don't have. After you shoot a couple matches you'll figure out what you want to get and then you'll spend your wallet dry! LOL

Look at 3 Mils Right, www.3milsright.com. The only monthly natural terrain 3 gun match in the state. We have a lot of shooters that come out each month from beginners to nationally sponsored pros.

We also have long range sniper competitions ( one this weekend actually) and offer a lot of training as well. If you have any questions give us a call. Lots of videos on you tube as well that our shooters have posted.

I've been working on accumulating all the stuff to compete in 3 gun competitions. I'm learning that the guns are the easy part. What im struggling with is which belt, holster, pouches, mag carriers, shell caddies, slings, etc.. That stuff is expensive and the list is extensive!

As far as guns I use a G34, RRA AR and I just bought a tricked out Benelli M1. I'm excited about learning and competition.

Other than the "tacti-cool" factor, I don't think you'll win anything by going with a chest rig. There are reasons that the pros don't use them.

Now if you are competing as a law enforcement professional, go with a chest rig(or whatever setup you use on duty). train like you plan to fight.

I'm going with the belt rig for the above reasons. I just need to decide on which one. I really like the looks of the Safariland ELS but the options are confusing and I can't make up my mind as to exactly what I want/need.

The ELS is a great choice. Lots and lots of guys run a CRSpeed belt. You really don't need a nice belt but it sure is easy for them to change out stuff on their belt and slap it on whereas I have to take mine off and restring whatever it is that I need(I just use a plain rigger's belt). If you are wanting to save some $, just run a plain belt and deal with having to slide pouches on/off when you need it for a particular stage. If $ is no object, get it all! :-)

I started out with cheap mag pouches from Blackhawk, shell caddies from California Competition Works, and an AR mag holder from Safariland. Now I'm running custom Kydex mag holders for pistol and AR and have a couple of 4x4s on order from APCustom.

If you haven't shot a match yet, you should. There's no better way to figure out what you need than to just go and do it. Take a minimal amount of gear(what you think you might need) and try it out. Borrow everything else. You'll find out very quick what works(and doesn't) for you. I bought way too much crap in the beginning that just didn't work for me. I saw it on TV or online but when it came down to shooting, it just wasn't what I needed.

Yes, when I get to compete I shoot with three different officers from Plano PD. I use a CR Speed setup with blade tech mag holders and a blackhawk or raven concealment holster. Holster is changeable based on type of comp.

Personally I would not run a chest rig. To easy to get stuck laying on your gear and can be hard to work with.

Rifle wise I run one of my RPG SPR's and recently changed from a Sig 226 to a Modified Glock 34.

I did shoot a match a few weeks ago and kinda got an idea of what I need but I'm still un sure.. I borrowed the shot shell caddies (and shotgun) and ar mag holder. I used my cheap Blackhawk mag holder for my 34 mags and a SERPA pistol holster. It worked out pretty good but Im going to have to buy my own gear so I can practice with it. In my first shoot I scored 18th out of 84 shooters. I'm hooked for sure!
