For those of you that have mule deer on your place, What is the preffered feed for them? Do they like corn or is there a more effective feeding method?

Mulies are hit and miss as far as getting them on a feeding program. I don't bother on my place anymore since they really seem to prefer grazing our winter wheat or triticale. Purina actually makes a protien pellet specfic to Mulies, but it's high dollar. http://www.wildlife.purinamills.com/products/ECMD2-0017373.aspx

One part of the ranch they will eat Alfalfa, other part they wont touch it and will only eat the record rack.
Need to experiment.

I've had alfalfa and protien mixed with alfalfa and I had monsters feeding 40 yards off my porch everyday as well as pronghorn and javelina. And they muleta usually stay away from my house or at least a half mile around the head quarters .

You can buy bags of alpha cubes at the feed stores for a cheap price that last along time . I had the cerf ranch between fort stockton and sanderson for 10 years and the mule deer would pass up corn any day to eat the alpha cubes. To build a feeder take about thirty minutes. Simply cut a 55 gal drum in half for a small feeder or leave full. Put a funnel in the bottom of drum upside down so it moves the cubes to the outside of the drum. Then just take a torch and cut about 8 u shaped cuts around drum. They should be about 4 inches wide. Then take a pair of pliers and bend the cut up at a 90 degree so the deer can reach the cubes. And a few legs and you are done. Hope this helps
