I have family that lives in maypearl and have land and a 2 and 3y old little cusins that love playing in the garage and drive way. I've had to go kill a copper head in their kitchen. The thing is they ain't scared of nothing. he and she will reach down and hand me fish while I'm cleaning its cute but I'm scared they might reach down and grab a snake one day. Is there anything that you can put in the yard to kill or keep them away. If so if anybody has tried anything that really works I would appreciate it if I could get a reply.

The snakes or the kids?
I don't know about treating a whole yard, but I put napthalene crystals (crushed mothballs)around my trailer and blinds at the deer lease since I had a rather dicey meeting with a 4 ft rat snake. I know rat snakes won't hurt you - but they can sure make you hurt yourself.
If the yard is fenced you might get yourself some Guinea Hens - they'll do a number on a snake.

If you live in the country and can stand the racket they make I second the Guinea suggestion.

Snake away you can get at tractor supply works great It works but main ingredients in snake away are napthalene crystals and sulphur granules!

We have found rattlesnakes in camp this year and one of the members spread mothballs all around. I poked around the internet and all I could find was that there is no evidence of them actually working. Do they really seem to work? I was worried about them harming other critters around camp

2 kids have been bitten this spring by copperheads in the neighborhood park. I'm going to bring up the granulated sulphur pellets in the next HOA meeting One of the kids hospital bill was 30K! Thanks for the info.

We put moth balls in our chicken coop. Still get rat snakes in it. It may have worked for other people, but not for me. Shot two out of one nest box acouple weeks ago and pretty much kill one evertime I go into it.

We are going down to the lease to clean up around camp/weedeat & de-snake the place. I heard about the moth balls & bought some. Might go to the feed store & get some sulfur pellets. I put a call in to my brother who is in the pest control business. He might know a trick. He's the one who told me about fox urine keeping rodents away. It's worked for over a year! We have a 4 year old who loves being outdoors, so I am real worried about the snakes down there. We didn't have a problem last fall, but I heard they are bad this year. Don't want my Tomboy Princess getting bit.

Only so many times I can walk in and have a snake hanging from the rafters above my head. But if we by chance decide to get more, which will probably happen, I will be sure to put some out and see.

My brother just told me that these 2 things (moth balls & sulfur pellets) are the most effective deterrents for snakes, if you can stand the smell. He's worked in pest control for years now & dealt will all sorts of critters.

Snake proofing kids is not a bad idea. It could save lives, money, and pain.

my mom had a goose that killed snakes. Figure it smells less than the sulfer and wont hurt the kids.

I throw moth ball under and around the house up in Dumont and it SEEMS to be working pretty good. Was up last weekend cleaning up around the house a little and saw no snakes although a neighbor killed a rattler that morning in her back yard.....But I did see my horney toads!!

When the boys were younger..I mowed the neighbors brush as well as mine..Being raised in So. Louisana, and around Hull-Daisetta as a child I saw many snakes and water moc..which are much more agressive than rattlers..Dad would come home and get a tomato stake and go w/us to kill the snake..usually daily..We didn't have computers and therefore believed we'd be hurt and not get over it...something to think on with todays children...they don't really have a grasp of reality and the parents many times don't encourage one..DD
