No bands but had an argument with a buddy over who was going to go get a crippled snow 150 yards away in a rice field...he went and got it...it was banded.

That's it for me in 3 years of heaving hunting. 2 of those in Eastern AR and one here in TX.

A lot of Bird Banders do that. The way they hold the bird the band upside down is right side up when they read the number.

To me that doesnt seem so unusual. YOu grab a duck that is flapping and scared and you band it as fast as you can. I'm sure some are right side up and others are upside down depending on how the bander grabbed the band.

Hunted ducks hard for about 8 years and killed a ton of them. Not one banded though. Kinda miss duck hunting.

I killed a GWT drake last year that was banded, and two days later my Dad killed a banded Mallard Drake in the same hole.

neither one of us had killed a banded bird before. It was an incredible experience!!!

I've hunted for about 17 years and my dad has hunted for about 5 years. First banded birds we've run across.

Is it duck season yet?

Drake, you can tell by the white patch on its wing. I'm guessing he killed it during teal season before it was plumed out.

Not to hijack the thread...but what's the oldest bird anyone's harvested? Had a buddy shoot a snow that was "too young to fly" when banded in Eastern Canada...shot it 8 months later in Arkansas. We kinda ragged him for shooting the "easy" young birds but he got a band and we didn't...

You guessed it. I thought it was a hen at first as well.

He exactly remebered that day he banded them birds as part of a high school project. Good times.
Been hunting ducks since I was 8 and I'm 37 now. have only 10 bands most from Land Between the Lakes on the Kentucky/Barkley lake system when I was younger. back then a band was just a piece of metal for me to collect to show my friends. I also have quiet a few my dads friends gave me when I first started out.

The greenhead I killed this past season was banded in 2006 as an adult. Another mallard band was killed up there that was banded in 2001 as an adult so it was at least 11. My girlfriend killed a banded blue goose this year that was banded in 2000 as an adult so it was at least 13. My uncle killed a snow goose back in the day that had a metal leg band and a tarsal band and it was over 23 years old.

Lol. I thought I was the only one with a pigeon band.

I shot a snow goose in Eagle Lake that was banded up. I was 14 years old and had no idea that they were rare. Guide took it before I could object; I really wish I had it back.

Only three bands for me in 22 years of hunting, we average 380-490 ducks per season, none of the banded ducks killed were in areas we kill 90% of our ducks each year. All my bands were on trips, one in Tx, La, and Ok.
