Looking to buy a crossbow. Leaning toward a recurve crossbow as replacing string looks simpler. Fewer moving parts to break. Mostly for hogs. $800 to $1,200 range. Considering Excalibur and Kodabow. May consider a compound and considering Scorpyd, Ten Point and Stryker. Dependability and durability are key. Any thoughts?
I go to Bone Daddy's for the burgers....yeah, that's why.

The Barnett Quad 400 AVI is a great Compound and goes for about 475. a Crank is suggested due to the draw of 150 Lb. Great Compound for the money. for the recurve power limbs I would go with either the Excalibur Equinox @ 899.99 or the Exomax for about the same.

I have and really like the Parker Tornado, it is a lot smaller and lighter than some of the others which comes in real handy in blinds or tree stands.
175lbs is not that bad to pull back with some of the string devices that are out there. I have a crank and a rope device, the rope is easier.

My 5 year old shoots an older Barnett recurve limb crossbow. It is quiet and accurate. I topped it with a laser sight for her and so far she has killed 2 rams and barely missed a hog with it. The ram she shot last weekend was at 25 yards and the bolt blew right through him. Its fun to shoot.

Get an Excalibur. After I tore my shoulder up I had to switch to a crossbow. I debated back and forth on what to get. I am really glad I decided on an Excalibur, no problem on the width you get use to it.

If u decide to go with the compound, go to Cabelas and shoot every model they have. Just save the Stryker for last and chances are, that's the one you'll end up with. Really in a class by itself.

A couple of week ago Cableas Fort Worth had some Hortons in the Bargain Cave. I've shot it before and it was super quite.

Go with recurve and excalibur. I cannot say enough about my excal. With a recurve you can let the string down without shooting an arrow and they are as maintnence free as a bow can be.

We tried every make & model Cabela's had last year at their big Archery Days event and the Horton Reverse Limb design was by far the quietest and fastest we shot. I bought one for my wife and two of my friends bought them too, at the same time and this was after shooting every version they had in stock.. We did a lot of shooting and hunting with them last fall and I have to tell you they are unbeilevably accurate. At 30 & 40 Yds my wife had to quit shooting at one specific target because she was stacking to many arrows and all in the bullseye. Quiet, fast and accurate...oh ya pricy too but well worth the investment.

Question about the HORTON, they do not make the Vison now and have 2 new models. The Fury and Havoc with reverse draw, has anyone shot one of the new ones? Is 42 FPS worth the extra $200?

+1 on the above questions re: the Fury and Havoc. Was planning to buy a Vision, but noticed the two new models. Would love to hear from anyone who has experience on either the Fury and Havoc vs. the Vision.

You can change strings with string changer accesory yourself, you can decock, with cocking rope if you need to, they are pretty bullet proof and reliable. It does not have an auto saftey like most others which means you have to make sure to put it on safe after cocking but other than that a good bow. They are a bit wider "axel to axel" compared to compounds but if that is not an issue
