Hey Guys

I had a spot on our hunting lease up near Trinity that always had a bunch of hogs on the trail camera - but never any deer during the day -

So - I decided to make that area into a night time hog hunting spot...

I put up a feeder with the 6 LED solar lights attached:

Lights are Hampton Bay - Garden LED Lights (solar charged)
$14 each Home Depot - 6 lumens each so about 36 lumes in a 15-20 foot circle.

after about 10 weeks still work perfect - with full charges

These lights are working well - The camera pic's show the lights "On" from dusk till about 3:30 am - which is about 6 to 7 hours - just as advertised

They do not seem to spook the hogs or deer (lights/feeder put out on 2/12/2012 and hogs and deer feeding early AM 2/16/12)...

The lights are bright enough to see the hogs - but would not be bright enough (my eyes) to target them... I got a green light and Red Dot sight on my new just finished project hog rifle (tricked out British .303.)

I have one big hog (I think its the same hog in most of the pictures) coming and staying it seem every evening and late night for the last 10 weeks (over 120 pic's)

smaller hogs not seen much with him around...

We are going to start hunting soon - my son Zale wants to kill that big hog bad ( will a .243 drop that hog...??)

Thanks Guys

the hogs don't seem scared of the lights but they know they are there. i use the moonshine light which is hooked to a solar panel which stay on also when i am not hunting to keep them use to the lights. when i am hunting, i have found a outdoor ceiling light made by Dorsy that is mounted to the other side of the feeder from the moonshine light on a bracket i made. https://www.signalmarine.com/p-59477-dorcy-wireless-motion-ceiling-light-white.aspx? both are motion lights.

i also found that the bigger hogs will eat outside the lights and never come under them. i put a plastic tub around the spinner so the corn only fall under the lights.

i would leave your landscape lights and get a extra light for when you are hunting.

i use a cheap simmons scope which seems to gather a lot of light and i can see the non lite up cross hairs.

243 will work but shot placement is key. my 13 year old and i like the federal triple shocks which give a little leeway on placement.

you might think about a hog tube to keep them there longer. i have mine connected to one of the legs of the feeder.

You might want to build a hog pipe or two and throw them out when you hunt. They have to work at getting the corn and would stay in the area longer.

Good luck, got some intersting color patterns on those hogs. Love to see something other than just black.
