I have a 5 month old lab and we are thinking about sending her for training , she is a family pet and will be duck hunter. We live east of Denison and want to find someone close so we can visit and be part of it. I am considering a couple trainers . But looking for recommendations references and what you may have experienced good or bad if you want Pm me . I just want to feel comfortable leaving her with someone. She lives in the house and kinda spoiled . Work has picked up and I feel like I'm not giving her the training she needs . I have her where she will heel on leashe sits and crazy about retrieving .

Mark is a great guy and a good trainer. Not sure if he is taking on gun dogs. He is full-on field trialing, and has a decent size string of dogs that he is campaigning.
But you can ask and find out.

Marks trains my field trial dogs and Rusty trains my hunting dogs.

I don't know who Rusty is, but with respect to the issue of sending a dog north for the summer.....
I personally would not pay a trainer that stays in Texas during the summer. It's just too hot to be able to train other than really early or late. And if the trainer has a decent number of dogs, your dog will not be getting the kind of work that I expect.
Going north is a whole other ballgame. The big pro trucks can get in two big setups a day and a couple of blinds.
If you are serious, then the summer trip is a must.

If you are serious, then the summer trip is a must. This is very true. I have found out that my dogs have benefited from the trips up north the past couple of years. Its a whole lot cooler and there are serval more tests to run. Texa is extremely dangerous on a dog mid summer.

However now days it depends where north we are talking, colorado is almost as hot as Texas these days.. Been there done that! Many well respected trainers choose to stay in Texas.. Some take small trips to run a test or trial here and there but not gone for the entire summer.. Ex Danny Farmer,
