Has anyone ever heard of a puppy getting a hemroid? Redish bump coming out of his anus. I'm going to call the vet first thing in the morning but I thought I would see if anyone had heard of it.

Hemorrhoids are enlarged veins, not bumps. It could be an infected anal gland. Antibiotics

The reason i ask is because i recently red this article http://www.petplace.com/dogs/rectal-prolapse-in-dogs/page1.aspxit actually states dogs and cats dont get hemorroids This is from the link: Animals with rectal prolapse have a fair chance of recovering with appropriate treatment. It is crucial to take your pet to the veterinarian as soon as possible if you suspect rectal prolapse. Dogs and cats do not get hemorrhoids so any tissue that protrudes from the anus is abnormal. Try to keep the tissue moist with warm wet washcloths and do not allow your pet to lick or chew at the tissue. Keeping the tissue moist and free of trauma will give it the best chance of being repaired.

It looks like its coming out of his anus and almost a dull red. Look like the upper part but what do I know. I patted it with some warm water about an hour ago. I don't think it is the anal gland. Our vet opens at 7:30 in morning and I plan on taking him straight over then. Thanks for the input everyone.

I bet it's the anal gland. Just probably needs to be expressed (sp).
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Its not hemroids but I cant remember what its called. You can either put Preperation H on it and/or sugar with a little water added to make a paste. However, you probably need to go to the vet anyway because its usually caused by diarrhea. Pup may have coccidia or something and you will probably want to get some Albon for that.

I have not had to do this with coccidia but one time a pup ate some wood shavings and got one stuck in its bottom the vet took out the chip and put a warm cloth on the bottom then applied what I think was epsom salts. It has been years ago but I am pretty sure thats what it was it worked. Hope this helps

Either way the dog needs to see the vet. If its rectal prolapse and the tissue drys out your looking at surgery. Anal glans that are that bad need antibiotics. Let us know the outcome at the vets.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Went to the vet this morning. He has swallowed some small pieces of hard plastic which caused the issue. He is now on a stool softner, antibotics, and antinflamatory medicine for a few days. Should be just fine. Looked over the yard and found that a plastic sprinkler has ben chewed on. Thanks for the input everyone.
