Ive been in Germany and deployed to Afghanistan for the past couple years and Ive been hearing the most horrible rumors about Guns and Ammo prices going up tremendously. Can any of you guys confirm these for me.Im looking to buy when I get back to the States I just want to know what Im in for. Thanks to all.

I havent seen it yet. I was at Wal-Mart just a little while ago and they had just about all ammo in stock and at the same prices as the last few months.

To answer you question..Lead shot was $12 a sack, and now runs $45 to $55 a bag..primers are up..projectiles about the same..
and their are a lot of rumors around about the govt buying ammo
and the prices going up, but they are unconfirmed..and I asked a
bud of mine who works at Barnes and sent him the article..he said
it was a Rumor..Don

Im from sulphur springs.The last ammo I remember buying was a box of .44 mag. I think I payed just over 40 bucks. I wont be stationed back in the states until the end of 2013. Ive just got gun fever real bad and Im looking to get a few new purchases if I can get it past the old lady lol. Ill be home to visit family in july after I get out of Afghanistan. I aint even been hunting since Ive been over seas. its just to expensive in Germany.Thatll get to a man after awhile.lol. But I Appreciate you guys getting me up to speed on things.

JohnnyReb, thanks for your service. Glad to know we share a hometown. The only ammo not on shelves in bulk have been .40 & 9mm. That was at 2 different bps, academy.

I've never really found .40 and 9mm in bulk at either of those locations for a long time. BPS had those Remington UMC yellow/white and green/white "bulk packs" for a while (250 rounds I think), but the local WalMart sold Winchester White box and CCI Blazer Brass for less, and they always seemed to have it in stock.

Lately, my local WalMart (Culebra / 1604 in San Antonio) has stayed fully stocked behind the counter. But I think the reason for that is - NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW WHO HAS THE KEYS! The last two times I went in that WalMart, they couldn't find the person who was supposed to be working in that part of the store, and they apparently were the only people that had keys to the case. I found an assistant manager, and they paged the person who was supposed to be working, but they never showed up. After about 15 minutes, I left.

Most of my pistol ammo lately has come from mail order places if I can't find it at WalMart.

Rifle ammo is a different story - Academy has been pretty good about that lately.
