Went to the range a few days ago to test some CFE-223 in my Bushmaster Varminter. The gun was super clean inside & out and being the experimenter that I am I coated the bolt and bolt carrier with Hornady Cleaner & Dry Lube, wanted to see how it worked. (I know all the stuff about using different gun oils, ARs like to be wet, etc, etc.)
Planning ahead I took some Hoppe's gun oil along and a new can of Safariland CLP, that I had never tried.
After about 30 rounds the Bushy start to have feed problems (kind of expected that) so I got the Hoppe's out then thought lets try the CLP. Gave the Bolt Carrier Group a very liberal dose of the CLP and fired 50 more rounds. The gun performed flawlessly.
Really interested in hearing from those that have used CLP for this purpose & why you like it or dislike it.
Thanks Will

I use it. Never found a reason not to. It cleans, lubricates, and protects. Kinda hard to ask for anymore than that.

It burns off too fast for my liking and there are much better options out there. Slip 2000 EWL is the best lube out there IMO. Mobil One and Amsoil (motor oils) are close second.
If CLP and 50 flawless rounds impress you, try Slip and get 500 or more flawless rounds downrange.
The last carbine class I went to was 1500 rounds over three days. I started with a reasonably clean gun and lubed the bolt and carrier assembly every morning. Never had a hick up and that was running suppressed, meaning a lot more blowback and carbon in the upper.

Just checked out their website and looks like great stuff combined with your experience. I'll get some and give it a try, love to experiment. But I must say I just field stripped my AR after the 50 round on Monday with the CLP and the bolt and carrier are still very well lubed.

Try out the motor oil first if you've got it around. You may not be looking any further.

WE stock a small supply of Slip 2000 EWL, works very well BUT a little goes a long way. But I have put 1Ks of rounds thru ARs with Mobil 1 and also Royal Purple. They worked just as well!

I've been using CLP ever since it became commercially available - bye bye LSA oil. I've never used anything else. I never WILL use anything else.

I use motor oil its cheap and works great. I like heavier weights like 20w-50. I ran my LMT for over 1k rounds with nothing but a little motor oil.

Earl Looking at what you have put on the ground I don't think I'd do any thing different. I too am a hunter, first & foremost.

CLP was all that was issued out of the armory windows while I was in the USMC. It is great stuff. I'm sure there is better lube, but it is cheap and cleans, lubes and protects. I still use it on all my guns. HEY, 1,000 post for me!

CLP is great! The Mpro7 is good too. I'll use whichever of those two I can get my hands on.

The range i own has a lot of sand, a tendancy to cause weapon malfunctins due to sand and dirt debris getting into moving parts. We are up on the red river and have very fine sand and it gets everywhere. I use CLP and have never had a problem. Recently had Chris Costa out to the range and ran roughly 1400 rounds suppressed in a day and a half with zero problems. Chris asked what i run in my rifles and i told him CLP. He then told me about a product called Frog lube. He uses this exclusively and says he has never once had a problem. Might look into it too.

WD-40 is not really a lubricant.

WD-40 is not really a lubricant. WD-40 is the worst lube for an AR that I know of. You can drench the bolt carrier in it and after a few rounds it'll be completely dry. chewing tobacco spit would work better than WD-40.

M Pro 7 and Hoppes Elite is what I use on my pistols and I cant complain a bit. I cant vouch for it in an AR but pistols its

I use it. Never found a reason not to. It cleans, lubricates, and protects. Kinda hard to ask for anymore than that. Exactly why its called CLP. I use break free for my AR and all of my firearms. I never have had any issues with my firearms. My RR performs flawlessly with CLP and with training sessions we easily put down 100+ rounds during training sessions.
