I usually use fixed blades but am considering using a Grimm reaper 3 blade mechanical for turkey. My concern lies with if I tighten the broadhead in the arrow shaft all the way it is hard to open the blades. If I loosen the tip some the blades open somewhat easier but I am concerned with having the tip somewhat loose. These tips shoot accurately but I am concerned with a mechanical failure on a turkey. My other option is a Magnus stinger buzzcut which shoot great and have taken hogs and deer but I feel will penetrate and offer less cutting area. Helpful thoughts?

Is there a spacer or ring that you can change the position on above or below an o ring on the Ferrel?

There is a cylindrical piece with three slots that lines up with the free moving blades. When the screw threads are tightened down all the way (as I would tighten a fixed blade, this bracket fits snugly to the base of the swinging blades causing them to be very stiff in movement. Even when this bracket is backed off and the blades open a little easier, I am not having all the blades open evenly or completely when I manually push the arrow shaft to penetrate card stock paper. I know that is far from comparison from what will go one when an arrow zips down range and makes contact with a full bodied dense animal, but it has me concerned

I would contact them on the website and see if they can help. Or give you your money back.

How easily should these blades open?? It's all three functioning the same. I shot a medium sized pig with one and only got 9" of Penetration from 15 or so yards with my bowtech assassin. Disappointing... Shot placement was spot on also in this occurrence

Make sure the split ring that holds the blades in is indexed properly.

Yep sounds like you didn't get the ring on there right.

There is a tab like thing that has to be in the opening of the ring for it to seat correctly.

Ok I'll check that out thanks for the help. This again why I have more confidence in fixed blades.

My go to blade is a Magnus stinger buzzcut 100gr. It has worked well and provided excellent penetration on everything I have shot with it. However, about an hour and a half ago I stuck a pig behind his shoulder and only got about 11" of penetration whereupon he ran past the feeder and snapped the exposed shaft of my arrow. Must have hit a rib just wrong because this is not the usual results I have seen from stingers.

Mechanical broad heads generally don't get as much penetration as a fixed head. There will be arguments against that but some of the energy is lost in the opening of the blades and when they do hit full open that's the equivalent of a second impact so less penetration, especially on a tough hide and boned critter like a pig, is to be expected. Thinner skinned, lighter boned animals like a whitetail or fallow don't present the same challenge to penetration as a pig.
That said if you are experiencing reduced penetration with your fixed heads you may need to look at some other issues such as tuning and arrow spine. Have you changed anything else such as a new rest or bow?

Only issue I could see maybe being a issue is the ammount of energy needed to deploy the blades with your current set up.

Bowtech 82nd Airborne 70lbs DW 31' Easton FMJ 100 Grim Reaper Whitetail Special 20yrds 325lb pig it went thru like a knife in hot butter. Normally shoot the NAP Spitfires 1 3/4 cut but I wanted to try the Grim Reapers and I must say very nice. Even with the heavy arrow I am shooting 315 fps out of my set up that bow is a beast.

I shoot grimm reapers w/ my PSE revenge 290fps. I have shot several hogs w/ them and had several pass thrus. I personally think the broad heads are awesome and work great. The blades will open when they hit the animal.
