We have 300 ac. outside Quanah & have been approached by Hilliard Energy to put these windmills on the place. The money you get sounds good but we were wondering about hurting the deer hunting. And if anyone has had any problems with anything being bothered on your land. Any help is appreciated.

sometimes the money gained on this can get you a pretty good lease in other areas of the state...

i don't think they hurt the deer hunting as much as people think, they will adjust to the after a while

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I agree with tx...I killed my biggest deer a few years ago about 200 yards from a drilling rig, and out here n the one I work at now, I watch the deer everyday all around us. If they can get use to that, then they will be fine around windmills, imo.

Be careful, because on some of the windmill deals, they have specific things in the contract about hunting. That may not be for all, but a buddy of mine was approached at 10,000 a year per windmill......but he would not be able to lease his land for hunting or hunt on the land that the windmills sat.

Need to check real close, if your considering it and still wanting to hunt it....JMO

its all about how you set up the lease, its all a negotiation. They brang you a lease you make changes send it back to then they make changes,,,ect. We have 15 in the Okla panahadle. They have been up for a while, but at first they said no hunting, or farming.... And we went back in fourth. Also some of our land was in CRP, so we had to work with the CRP office also, but in the long run we ended up getting what we wanted. The new leases are alot more profitable then the older ones so I have heard. The best thing to do is get a lawyer with Windmill lease expereince to repesent you and go from there. We treated it like a mineral lease and basically if they want it bad enough they will pay for it and meet your demands. Good luck

It will all depend on how bad they want your land. If they want it bad enough, you can hunt, and any other requirements you may have. Did they say how many windmills they would like to put on 300 acres? We have property up in Childress, and I don't have a problem with the windmills, but with wheat at $10. a bushell, I would not want to give up my surface rights to not be able to grow a wheat crop. Consider the ecological impacts.

Aerial photos have been studied from previous windmill sites and they are compared to oil rigs. Vegetation is lacking and void in the areas surrounding the rigs. Plant succession is often in it's pioneer stage at maximum.

Millions of raptors and migratory birds are killed yearly.

They are the ugliest thing ever made.

No doubt that you should consider hunting in the contract while negotiating, but there are a lot of ecological impacts that are overlooked. This is a band-aid approach to an ever-increasing problem.

I would guess that after a while they would be used to them, but it takes the companies forever to put them up. There is a wind farm going up north of where I live and it is really pi$$ing me off. The only people in our area that are for them is the people who are getting paid. It sucks!!!
